2020.05.01 20:36 JTigertail Angela Hammond was abducted while using a payphone to talk to her fiancé on April 4, 1991. 29 years later, her case remains unsolved.

See this post for sources and footnotes/clarifications to some of the details in this write-up. I also created this interactive map showing all relevant locations in this case, including the chase route.

Angela Marie Hammond was born in Kansas City, Missouri on February 9, 1971. She moved away when she was four years old and spent most of her life living in small-town Missouri.1 She is described as a popular, extroverted young woman, a “typical teenager” who liked to hang out with her friends and cruise around town in her 1987 red Mustang.
“Ang was the type of person who was very outgoing, fun-loving,” says her mother, Marsha Cook. “She was headstrong. She didn’t care what anybody thought. If she wanted to do something, she did it.”
In November 1990, Angela began dating Robert Shafer, an 18-year-old senior at Clinton High School. By January, she was pregnant with their child, and the couple quickly got engaged and began to prepare for the new baby. According to contemporary news reports, she was either taking classes at Central Missouri State University in nearby Warrensburg in April 1991, or had recently dropped out to work as a night processor at the Union State Bank in Clinton. The baby was due to be born on September 2, 1991.
On April 4, 1991, Rob, Angela, and her best friend, Kyla, spent the day with Marsha at a wiener roast in Montrose, about 20 miles southwest of Clinton. According to Marsha, the trio parted ways with her at around 9:00 PM to go “goofing around” in Clinton. Angela then dropped Rob off at the Shafer home around 10:00 PM to babysit his younger brother, planning to meet up with him again later in the evening after his mother returned home.
Kyla and Angela spent the next 75 minutes or so cruising around downtown Clinton, but, by the time Angela dropped her off at about 11:15PM, she felt too tired to hang out with Rob again as planned. Because she did not have a home phone, she stopped to use a payphone in the parking lot of the now-defunct Food Barn on East Jefferson Street, a short distance from Clinton’s historic town square.
Sometime between 11:15 and 11:30 PM2 — one article says she swiped her credit card at the phone booth at exactly 11:23 PM — Angela called Rob’s home to let him know she was done for the night and was going to return home and go to bed. During their conversation, she mentioned that a man was circling the parking lot in a green pickup truck. She did not seem concerned until he pulled into the lot next to her car and walked into the booth next to her, apparently to use the phone. She began to describe the truck and its driver: a beat-up, late-model green Ford driven by a dirty, scruffy-looking man with glasses and long hair. He left the booth without making a call and returned to his truck, pulled out a flashlight, and began rummaging for something inside the vehicle. Reasoning that the other phone might be broken, Rob told her to ask if he needed to make a call, to which the man replied that he would try back later.3
It was odd, but not particularly alarming, so Rob and Angela changed the subject. Minutes later, he heard a scream and the sound of the phone hitting the side of the phone booth.
“I didn’t need to use the phone anyway,” said the unknown man before the line went dead.
Rob rushed out of the house and began driving north towards the Food Barn. On the way there, a pickup truck zipped past him and he heard Angela’s voice cry out, “Robbie!”
In his panic, Rob slammed his own truck into reverse and spun around to follow the pickup — a snap decision that seriously damaged his transmission. He followed it south on 2nd Street and was making a right turn onto Calvird Drive when the engine began to die, eventually giving out a little over a mile into the chase. He watched helplessly as the truck sped away with Angela in tow. He flagged down a passing motorist and told her to follow the truck, but she refused, instead giving him a ride to the police station to report the abduction around midnight.
The Investigation
“We all had the same reaction,” said Angela’s father, Chris Hammond. “I mean, your transmission goes out?”
Detectives agreed, interrogating Rob multiple times over the next few days. On April 11, FBI agents grilled him for five hours and subjected him to both a polygraph and voice stress test (both of which he passed).
However, Rob was soon cleared after their investigation turned up three witnesses who were able to corroborate his story. The woman who brought him to the police station said she saw the green pickup parked next to Angela’s Mustang. Two other young women who lived in nearby Calhoun, Missouri reported seeing her at the phone booth, standing near what they described as a green 1969 Ford pickup truck with a mural of a water scene on the rear window. They saw the driver lean back into his seat and recognized it as the same truck they had seen two nights earlier, driving slowly down Highway 52 south of Windsor. Mistaking Angela for a friend, they entered the parking lot to say hello, but quickly drove away when they got a closer look and realized they did not know her.
Besides having witnesses to confirm the existence of the green truck, Rob would have had less than an hour to murder his fiancé, dispose of her body and any evidence of foul play, and stage her abduction. And, while it may sound “too Hollywood” for his car to stall mid-pursuit, suddenly throwing your car into reverse is a move that can very easily damage the transmission. Angela’s mother and younger brother, Loren, have always believed in his innocence and have publicly defended him from accusations.
“I think it was natural that people wondered, ‘Did the boyfriend do it?’” Marsha said. “But my feeling was: I’d known the kid all his life, and I never doubted for a minute that he had anything to do with it.”
Combining all the witness statements, investigators began searching for a two-toned late 60s or early 70s Ford pickup truck with a white roof and possible damage to the front left fender. The upper half of the truck was painted light green and the lower half dark green, with the colors separated by a chrome strip. One witness said the license plate number may have contained the letters “XY,” but it was covered in mud and rust, and she was unable to remember any other characters. A mural of a water scene — depicted on Unsolved Mysteries as a fish jumping out of a pond — was plastered on the rear window.
The driver was a young white male between the ages of 20 and 35 with glasses, a beard, a mustache, and dark, collar-length hair. He may have been wearing a dark-colored baseball cap and overalls.
Investigators spent months tracking down about 1,600 trucks that fit the description and were registered in Missouri, but came up empty-handed. They concede that the description of the vehicle may not be totally accurate; although it is most commonly described as a 1968 to 1970 Ford pickup, in 2009, Sgt. Paul Abbott said it could be older and might not even be a Ford at all. It is also never explicitly stated that the truck had Missouri plates.
With Rob ruled out, investigators began to focus on a different theory: That Angela was the victim of a serial killer targeting young women in west-central Missouri.
At about 10:00PM on January 19, 1991, 42-year-old Trudy Jean Darby was closing up the K&D County Corners convenience store in Camden County when she noticed a suspicious-looking man standing outside. Out of precaution, she called her adult son, Waylon, and asked him to come help her close the store for the night. When he arrived just minutes later, both his mother and the $220 she normally left in the till for the morning crew were missing. Two days later, her body was found submerged in the Little Niangua River in neighboring Hickory County; she was nude and had been shot twice in the back of the head with a .38 caliber weapon.
On February 27, 30-year-old Cheryl Ann Kenney disappeared after closing LJ’s Quality Convenience Store shortly after 10:15 PM in Nevada, Vernon County, Missouri. Her car was found abandoned outside the locked building the next morning. The janitor said there was an unknown male customer still inside the store with Kenney when he left right before closing, and two people in the area reported hearing a scream at about the time she would have exited the building, but it is unclear if either of this things are related to her case.
Then, on April 4, Angela became the third woman to be abducted in west-central Missouri in under three months. Investigators met on multiple occasions to share notes and compare the three cases, but, while most tended to believe they were connected, it was impossible to say so with certainty. They investigated multiple reports of attempted abductions around Missouri — including a March 1991 abduction and May 1991 attempted kidnapping in Christian County, which were believed to be related to one another due to the similar suspect descriptions — but were unable to uncover any evidence tying them to any of the three missing women.
In summer 1991, authorities received a promising tip about a man who had been arrested for allegedly assaulting a teenaged girl in Stone County, Missouri and owned a 1969 Ford pickup that had recently been repainted from green to white. However, they were forced to drop him as a suspect when he was able to prove he was in California in 1991 and had repainted the truck months before Angela’s disappearance.4
On February 5, 1992, Unsolved Mysteries aired a segment about Angela’s case called “Dial A for Abduction.”5 The episode generated over 600 tips, prompting the Missouri Rural Crime Squad (which had briefly assisted in the early investigation) to reconvene for five days to help local authorities run down all the new leads. Within days of the episode airing, two residents of Gilmer, Texas reported seeing the green truck in their town on different dates, which led authorities to briefly investigate the possibility that Angela’s case was linked to the January 1992 abduction of 17-year-old Kelly Dae Wilson. However, they were unable to establish a connection, and none of the tips generated by the show panned out.
In March 1992, in a crime oddly similar to the murder of Trudy Darby, serial killer Kenneth McDuff abducted 22-year-old Melissa Northrup and stole $250 from the convenience store where she worked just south of Waco, Texas. He would be arrested about two months later in Kansas City, Missouri, after a coworker recognized him from a segment of America’s Most Wanted. He is believed to have committed at least nine murders in Texas between 1966 and 1992, and possibly more in other states.
Due to the Missouri connection, authorities wanted to question him in the cases of Trudy Darby, Cheryl Kenney, and Angela Hammond, but he refused to cooperate. Sergeant John Perry of the Kansas City Police Department said he tended to believe McDuff was not in the state at the time Darby and Kenney went missing, mainly because he was actively attending a technical school in Waco as late as February 1992. However, he would have already been living in Kansas City — about 75 miles northwest of Clinton — when Angela was abducted. A search of his apartment failed to uncover any evidence in their cases, and it is unknown if he is still considered a serious suspect in Angela’s disappearance.
In April 1993, detectives used cadaver dogs to search a 60-acre farm in Lafayette County, Missouri in response to persistent rumors that a former renter had helped bury Angela’s body and the green truck on the property. They had already discounted the tip after learning the man did not own a green truck and had a solid alibi for the night of Angela’s disappearance, but decided to put it to rest after an informant came forward with the same story in March 1993, followed by a local newspaper running a story about a psychic who supposedly spoke to Angela’s spirit and sensed clues when she visited the property. Predictably, they found nothing.
In the summer of 1994, a Missouri State Trooper received a tip that a 20-year-old man named Jess Rush had confessed to participating in the murder of Trudy Darby when he was just 15 years old. He also implicated his half-brother, 34-year-old Marvin Chaney, as the man who had shot her in the head and dumped her in the river. The investigation turned up two more people who Jess had confessed to, which led to him and Chaney being charged with kidnapping and first-degree murder on May 1, 1995.
While awaiting trial, Rush began speaking to fellow inmate and “jailhouse lawyer” Edward Thomas in hopes that he could help him beat the charges. Over the course of multiple conversations and 13 handwritten letters, he described how he, Chaney, and at least one other man (who has never faced charges) abducted Darby from the K&D convenience store and brought her to a barn, where they repeatedly beat and raped her before Chaney shot her once in the back of the head. She was then placed in the trunk of their car and driven to a spot along the Little Niangua River. When they realized she was still alive, Chaney shot her again and threw her into the water.
In six of the letters, Rush made vague, crass references to “them other bitchs [sic],” other women that he and Chaney supposedly raped and murdered. In one letter, he expressed relief that they had burned down the barn after killing Darby, destroying evidence of their other crimes.
“I’m glad they don’t know every thing [sic] else we did or I’d be on death row,” he wrote.
Rush and Chaney have never been charged with other murders, although they would remain the prime suspects in Angela’s case for years. Detectives were especially interested in a report that one of the men used to own a green truck that was destroyed sometime after her disappearance, but, by 2009, they had been almost completely ruled out for reasons not made public. In posts made to the Sitcoms Online forum in 2009, Loren wrote that he was never totally convinced of their guilt, and said authorities were making a renewed effort to follow up on leads that had previously been set aside under the assumption that Rush and Chaney were the perpetrators.
One name that has more recently come up in Angela’s case is Larry Hall, a suspected serial killer who is serving a life sentence for the murder of 15-year-old Jessica Roach in 1993. Hall claims to have killed upwards of 35 women, five of them in Missouri. Christopher Martin, who authored a book about Hall in 2010, believes that he was responsible for Angela’s murder because of his resemblance to the composite sketch, skill in hiding his victims’ bodies, and his claim that he abducted two of his victims from small towns in Missouri (which would fit Angela’s description). However, there is no solid evidence to link Hall to her disappearance.
The most recent update came in 2009, when investigators revealed that they now had DNA after re-processing evidence in Angela’s case. There have been no significant developments in the years since.
There have been even fewer updates in Cheryl Kenney’s case. Her son has expressed frustration with the police investigation into her disappearance, and believes that someone closer to home was responsible for her presumed murder. Authorities now believe it is unlikely that her case is connected to Angela’s.
Angela’s disappearance has devastated her family. Rob, having lost both his fiancé and his unborn child, took the loss especially hard.
“Rob blamed himself for it because he always told her he’d be there to take care of her,” Marsha said in 1992. “And he tried. He did everything that could be done. Nobody blames him, but I think he thinks that people blame him.”
Two months after Angela disappeared, Rob joined the National Guard and began training in Fort Eustis, Virginia. He is now in his late 40s and has children of his own, and continues to stay in touch with Angela’s family, most of whom still live in the area and continue to hold out hope that she and her baby will be found. No one has ever been charged in her disappearance, and her case remains unsolved to this day.

Personally, I have definitly thought about Brandi Malonson. I think someone has submitted a tip about them a few days ago, I found this post where u/brandip2011 said they submitted it to the website, but I don't have any other information. I've had other guesses but they've all been ruled out. I do believe there's foul play is involved, so someone might know something. I'd be so glad to see her have her name back.

2019.04.23 01:37 dontforgetsunscreen University of Turku- Question About Housing and International Student Life

Hey! I was admitted to the University of Turku for my Master's degree. I'll be coming from the USA so I'm trying to apply for housing as soon as possible. I was hoping someone at UTU or someone familiar with the TYS housing can help me out in regards to knowing the "better" housing complexes. I'm not picky with how far the apartments are from the school since I'm cool with taking the bus or biking. My main concerns are how up to date the facilities are and how big the apartments are. For example, Yo-Kyla studios seem very small for 1 person and I'm willing to pay more to have a 1-bedroom apartment or a studio with a larger living area and kitchen or even share a 2-bedroom apartment with someone. My maximum rent budget is around 500-600 euros. Ironside seems nice, as does Yo-Talot and Aamurusko. List of TYS housing options: http://asuntohaku.tys.fi/

Also, how is UTU viewed by Finland/Europe in general? Any other tips to know as an incoming [international] student? Are there any hiking trails/outdoor activities nearby?

Thank you!

2018.10.17 07:14 rigelraine Tales of the 20 Year Night Auditor (Venture Hills, cont) Part 2

I've been away awhile. I apologize; I started a new writing project and it's been moving along nicely, but now it's time to address the elephant in the room: what happened to me at Venture Hills after the Summer of Paid Love?
Well, there were a number of factors at play, and more than one clique at this hotel. Never before had I seen so many people intended to work together as a team vying for power and influence. To this day, I congratulate myself for staying out of the internal politics for as long as I did.
Despite this, everyone at this place, even the family, sought every advantage they could find; it was a battle to impress the owners- people so rich and influential they had their fingers in damn near every pie in town, or at least the tastiest ones. You could go a long way if you could get noticed the right way.
And this would be the Spring I was manipulated into helping bring down a not-so-innocent guy, and helping a girl get the gold she was digging for.
This just a little over a year in, and I've managed to develop a little respect from the eight managers I know, and trust from my coworkers. There's also no hint that anyone knows the identity of the person that closed down the prostitution ring housekeeping had going.
I had made a few friends; Alex, a lovely brunette that worked the dry bar (as opposed to the poolside bar), Kyla was a young girl that worked the front desk, and George worked evenings jumping from department to department. Less friendly was Layla, an attractive girl that nonetheless gave me reservations about her character. I got along with all of these people fine, I was just closer to the former people than the latter.
The managers had changed around a bit, as a few were promoted and new hires took their place. Alejandro was the hotel's 'rescue', a reformed gang member turned restaurant manager. Fred was an Operation manager, and was the brother of Eric, the AGM.
Why so much information about all these people? First, these made up just a fraction of the overall employee pool, and more importantly, each had played a small part in what was to come.
So I was covering a Friday night that Spring, which meant the place was packed with families, when Fred strolled in. It was about midnight, and I had never seen him there so late, but he was a manager, so I rolled with it.
"Hey Fred.", I greeted him.
Fred looked at me like he didn't understand what day it was. Then he looked at his phone, and I realized he actually wasn't sure what day it was.
"Oh hey, rigelraine. I didn't realize you were working tonight."
I shrugged. "Just covering. Not my usual night."
We chatted for awhile, until he got to the point.
"So hey, sometimes on the weekends I come in after hours. You know, make a pizza in the kitchen or hang out in the hot tub. That cool?"
According to the rules, this was NOT cool. It violated one of the Cardinal rules: no one in the kitchen or the pools after hours. Buuuuut...
So I'm not trying to validate what I did, but I said yes for a few reasons.
First, and most important, Fred wasn't just a manager. He was the AGM's brother and the both of them were related to the Family (ie the owners of not just the hotel and amusement park, but more land and businesses in the county than anyone else) through their sister marrying the GM.
Second, I had no doubt the part time guy let him do this, and this wasn't really my shift.
Lastly, Fred was known to have the best hookups in town. If you don't know what that means don't worry about it- you're innocent and let's keep it that way you sweet little angel. ;)
And let's not forget, this guy was influential, wealthy and he would owe me a favor.
"It's cool man. Just make sure you don't get me any noise complaints, okay?"
Fred said no problem! If that happens at all let me know and we'll leave right away. He walked away quickly, leaving me horrified at the plural 'we.'
Nevertheless, it turned out I had nothing to worry about that night. He walked back out after about fifteen minutes, to meet two beautiful girls in the parking lot, both which walked in carrying bags that I would later learn contained their bikinis... And probably a few things I didn't want to know about.
But like I said, no worries, right?
Over the next few weeks some big things happened.
First, Layla had started dating Eric, the AGM. This upset a lot of people, mostly the front desk crew, who all predicted that Layla would now get preferential treatment, and would probably be the FD manager by week's end. Even I was a little annoyed, mostly because I had suspected something was up about her, but it quickly became clear that that 'thing' was actually really obvious.
Layla was digging for gold, and she had just hit the mother lode. Soon she was strolling in 20, 30 minutes late with no apology to relieve me, ordering her fellow desk associates around, with the current desk managers blessing, and overall being a huge pain in folks asses.
But hey, I'm night audit, it doesn't affect me that much, right?
After all my experience in hotels, I should have known that attitude was going to chomp my cheeks.
So one Thursday night, Fred pops in, looking to use the kitchen and the pool. On my shift.
It made me a bit uncomfortable, but I had set precedent by allowing it before, and I wanted to keep that favor fresh, so I caved, but with the usual caveat: no noise issues.
"Sure, no problem!"
This time, though, when he comes back in, I recognized the girls he walked in with.
Alex, who works the dry bar. Kyla, who can't be more than 16. And Layla. Layla who is clearly not here with Eric, the second most powerful man in the hotel.
Shiiiiiit.
I couldn't help it, I spoke up, just not about the issue I suppose anyone else might. I couldn't stand the idea that this guy, close to thirty years old, was bringing a 16 year old into the hotel to drink.
"Kyla, what are you doing? Don't you have school tomorrow?"
I got no farther than that though. Fred, I will admit, had the little grace necessary to look sheepish, but Layla...
"It's none of your damn business what she's doing, rigelraine. You're just the night auditor. Mind your business."
Yeah, no one talks to me like that. Especially not someone like her.
"On my shift, LAYLA, the entire hotel is my business. Btw, where is Eric?"
I might as well have set off a bomb. Her eyes bulged and her mouth gaped and she couldn't reply. I honestly thought that she must have believed the auditor had no idea what went on at the hotel.
Fred was slicker. "He's actually on his way. Sorry about her, man. She's already had a few drinks and she's mad he didn't come with us, he had some stuff to do at home."
I counted to ten silently.
See, despite what you might be thinking, there really aren't that many good liars in the world. Body language, eye movements, little tells, most people have these.
Fred's tongue was quick, and slick, but the rest of Fred sucked at lying. But here's the thing: besides the underaged girl, I found I just didn't care that much. Alex was an adult, and I trusted her to make sure that Kyla didn't get taken advantage of. And while sixteen seemed young, I reminded myself that I had been doing way worse things at her age than drinking with older friends.
And while I didn't like Layla at all, I realized that if Eric didn't show, well, I might be able to slightly diffuse her growing attitude problem. Because there was no way Eric knew she was spending time with his brother.
No way.
I met Alex's eyes, and she understood what I wanted. She glanced at Kyla, looked back at me and nodded.
Fine.
They headed to the pool and I started on the audit, more to keep from thinking about the risk I had just taken than any need to get it done that early.
Here's the thing that I have learned after all these years: you are not in control. Of anything.
If you are confident, you can fool yourself pretty easily into thinking you are, but control is an illusion. And I was about to be reminded of that fact.
The noise complaint came around 3am. Some girls screaming at each other outside their poolside room.
Since they didn't have a room, or keys for one that I was aware of, it never occurred to me that it could be them, each was aware of the trouble they could get in, so when I entered the pool area I was shocked to find Kyla and Alex yelling at Fred, who was supporting a shirtless Layla.
As an experienced Night Auditor, you develop certain skills over time, and one of the talents I had acquired was the ability to take in a situation with a glance.
I wasn't pleased with what I saw.
Alex and Kyla were both wearing bikinis, but Layla was topless, and leaning into Fred in a drunken stupor. The other two girls were yelling at Fred to help her get her top on and let them take her home.
Fred was cupping Layla's left breast in his hand as he held her up.
No one had noticed me yet, and I found I no longer cared about any favors Fred could do for me.
"Fred." Silence was immediate. I hadn't spoken loudly, but I had a deep bass for a voice, and it carried.
Fred spun too quickly, dropped Layla, and stared at me stupidly. Alex looked triumphant. She knew me better than most, and knew what my reaction would be to a situation like this.
"Oh, rigelraine. This isn't what-"
"Shut up, Fred." I could feel the anger rising, and I knew that if I wasn't careful, this ass would end up with a broken nose, minimum, if I didn't regain control quickly. Maybe she didn't know me that well, after all, because I could see her face change out of the corner of my eye, from pleased to scared.
"What?" Fred couldn't believe anyone would tell him to shut up. You could see it in his eyes, how years of entitlement hadn't prepared him for this.
"Girls, help Layla get dressed. Get her home."
I took a deep breath. Control. Need control.
"Fred, you have two choices here. We can call your brother together, or you can go home, and I will call him and tell him what I found here. But by morning, I have a feeling you are going to regret doing what I think you were about to do."
Fred didn't say anything. He just walked out.
Alex nodded thanks to me, but I barely saw it. As soon as I could be sure they had Layla in hand, I followed to be sure Fred had left.
That morning, George came in to relieve me, and that's how I learned that Eric had left town for some conference, and wouldn't be back for a few days. I didn't have his cell number.
Layla showed up on my shift the next night.
It was like I was in the Twilight Zone. The very first thing she did was beg me not to tell Eric, or anyone else what had happened. She had already convinced Alex and Kyla, she explained. Eric, she told me, was insanely jealous and it wouldn't matter if Fred had tried to take advantage, Eric would dump her, and she loved him so much and she would kill herself if that happened and...
"Fine "
"What? What do you mean, rigelraine?"
"I mean, fine. I won't tell anyone, but no more late night pool parties, and I sure as hell hope you learned something here."
She assured me that she had, that she would never let herself be alone with Fred again, and she still couldn't believe he would do that to his brother's girl etc etc
The whole thing left a bad taste in my mouth.
But it got worse. About a week later, Alex and I had dinner at a nice Italian place. I'm still not entirely sure why, she was out of my league but I wasn't complaining.
About halfway through some delicious pasta, and not quite harmless flirting, Alex's eyes went wide and she whispered "Oh my God. "
I turned to look and felt my stomach drop.
Fred and Layla. They didn't see us, which I almost regret, but we saw them. They weren't there as friends, unless friends start making out in booths and no one sent me the memo.
Alex wanted to leave, and I agreed. I dropped the money for check and tip, and we went out through the side patio.
Alex watched my face carefully as I drove her home.
"What are you going to do?" She asked.
"Do? Nothing."
She didn't say anything for a while.
"Why not?"
"Alex, there's one thing I know for certain: never step between two brothers fighting over a girl, especially if that girl is playing the kind of game Layla's playing. You can't win."
After I dropped her off, I knew we wouldn't date again. Her disappointment was too obvious.
A few weeks later I learned that Eric had found his brother having sex with a very drunk Layla in the hot tub on my night off. They had brawled for a bit, and later Layla claimed that Fred got her drunk and took advantage of her.
First Alex, and then Kyla tried to tell Eric that Layla was lying, but he wouldn't listen. For whatever reason they left me, and that first night out of it.
Fred lost his position at the hotel, but otherwise remained untouched.
And Eric and Layla were married that summer. Alejandro took over Fred's position, and that's when the final, dark chapter of the story of Venture Hills began.
Tl/dr: I let people do naughty things on off hours, found out my boss's brother was banging the boss's gf. I do nothing, brother gets caught, but girl is just as guilty and plays it off as date rape. They get married.
Not sure when the last VH chapter is coming, but I will try to get to it soon.
Stay safe out there. Remember, boring is good, boring is safe. Until you almost get caught in the middle.

Have you heard of Keaton Henson? would you ever consider doing an incredible collaboration? Yes! I'm a big fan :) E x.
Do you guys like CHVRCHES? Aside from being exceptionally good at their craft, they are some of the nicest people we've met :) . IH.
Why are you look so gloomy and depressed on video for air studio live sessions? Everything is ok ;) ? Ahaha my mom as always told me (eversince I was a child) I should smile more on stage. Maybe I should listen to her more... R.
Is there a story to the kids on The Wild Youth EP? Yes! It's me (Elena) and my brother when we were mini people! The photo was taken by my grandmother at an adventure playground! There is a series of pictures from that day of us looking SO excited about everything! :) I think the thing I love most about that picture is the way my brother is grabbing hold of my neck! (and the "fun session" stickers!) E x
Hey, I'm a huge fan! You've played some cool venues such as churches and cathedrals, is there anywhere (however ridiculous) you'd like to play but haven't yet? Thanks for all the beautiful music! Hello! I've always really wanted to play in a cave! Or deep in a forest somewhere! That would be cool. But yes, we do love to play in beautiful venues! We played in a cemetery once! That was pretty spoooky! E x
How did it feel when you realized you guys had "made it big"? I still don't think we've "made it big". We're lucky to have been around the world a couple times, but when I see bands such as the National, you realise that these guys are total pros. R(emi)
Hmm, so you said ask anything... 1) What is the weirdest thing anyone of you has done on tours? 2) It's your last performance ever. Which song would you perform, and why? 3) Do you like sloths? 1) We almost drove in a prison once because our GPS took us there when (when it was meant to take us to our hotel). 2) Celebrations by Kool & The Gang, cause we might as well finish with some party. 3) I swear my girlfriend sends me at least 1 Buzzfeed Sloth relation link per day. R.
Hey guys, big fan! I saw you play at Massey Hall last week with The National and you were amazing. I was a bit disappointed that I didn't get to hear my favourite song (Landfill) though! I just wanted to ask how you got involved in the sessions for your new EP with Joe Duddell? I can't wait to hear it! We got introduced to Joe at Festival n°6 (in North Wales) and did a small session with him. We really liked it and wanted to do something special for our 4AD session so we asked him if he was up for working with us again. R.
Hey there. I have never heard of you before. What should I check out of yours first? Our cover of Hakuna Matata. Take care. IH.
Favourite albums of 2014 so far? The War on Drugs - Lost in the Dream. R.
What kind of bass do you guys always have on stage? i love that thing. Who is the guy that always plays live with you guys but is not "in the band"? Im really glad to see that you guys are receiving a lot of attention lately, you definitely deserve it. when we saw you in philly it was incredible. It's an old DanElectro U2(?) Bass that Igor bought off a friend a few years ago. And Luke is the guy on stage playing everything that we couldn't possibly play live as a 3 piece... And he is a lot friendlier than a backing track ;) R.
Hey Daughter, I am a big fan. I love how you guys create sonic atmospheres over pretty simple lines. Your songs really draw a listener in and then keep them with outstanding lyrics. Your stuff really is just beautiful. My question: What is your writing and creative process like? Music or lyrics first? And how do you keep pushing yourselves in different directions to keep from being static in your writing? A bit of both. Listening to lots of different music really helps. Life also just pushes you in different directions and that translates in whatever we are creating I guess. IH.
How did you come to getting to know your sound so well? do you plan on changing it in the future? Our sound is a constant work in progress. Even on tour I constantly tweak my sounds. We've been working on new songs recently and there's a lot of stuff which is quite different from the old stuff. It's very early days, so it's just about being creative and exploring new horizons. I can't vouch for what the album will be like yet but I think it's good to be interested in pushing yourself towards other sounds than your own. Your art and craft will only become stronger in my opinion. IH.
What was the best food you've ever had on tour? Where was it? We were in Tokyo, and we were walking up this street and came across a tiny door... we were wondering what it was so we had a sneaky peek inside and found it was a restaurant, and people waved us in! It felt a bit like Alice in Wonderland! haha We had the most amazing Sashimi! It was just such a random discovery! I love moments like that! E x.
Do you consider yourselves "post-rock"? and who are your favourite other post-rock bands? i hear some sigur ros influence. I think we definitely have "post-rock" influences. I always relate that genre to mostly instrumental bands where lyrics aren't as prominent as in our music though. Regarding the Sigur Ros influence, does my bow playing have anything to do with that ;) . IH.
What gig were you guys most nervous about? The first gig ever? The first gig as a headliner? The first gig at a festival? The first gig oversea? The first gig in another continent? I was pretty nervous for our first headline show. Or any kind of homecoming shows, because all of my musician friends are there and they can play a lot better than I am. R.
Every gig ever in the entire world :) IH.
Hey guys! huge fan, I was just wondering where did the name Daughter come from? Is there any deep meaning to the name? thanks :) Elena infamously said to Lauren Laverne she likes having "g" and "h" next to each other ;) . IH.
Hello Daughter! I am new to this chat thing lol, I just want to say your performance last May at The Troubadour in Los Angeles was heavenly! I got the opportunity to meet all three of you and I am super grateful that I did, you guys signed my poster and I took it with me for my first year of college, big fan here!! Are there any more plans to perform in LA again this year? It's been almost a year, what are you guys up to? Missed you guys at Coachella Hi Steph, thanks for saying such nice things! It was great to meet everyone after the show. There aren't any plans to play in LA soon. Our last show was at the Wiltern in October last year. Maybe you missed that one? Take care. IH.
How many tacos can you eat in one sitting? 5 Duh (Remi)
Jk, I have no idea. depends what drink comes with it...
You were the highlight of Glastonbury for me last year and you all looked a little surprised at the reaction, was there a time or a gig where you thought that you are really connecting with people and the band could go on and do big things? Thanks! We never thought about it in terms of big things but there's always a bit of amazement at witnessing people connect with the things we try to express both musically and lyrically. I can't think of a specific moment because we still really feel surprised about it. I hope we can keep that approach for as long as possible! IH.
What's your favorite song by The National? Seeing you both tonight! I always tear up a bit during "pink rabbits". See you there! IH.
Hey guys, big fan here! I saw you guys at Pukkelpop in Belgium last year. You guys didn't have your own instruments but you still put on an amazing show! I thought that was really awesome! My question is, did you guys find your old instruments back or did you have to acquire new ones? Did they get stolen or were they just misplaced? WE DID! It was so scary walking on stage without any of our gear and not knowing if people were gonna be understanding or stick around. But you guys were amazing and made us feel like we were playing a normal show. R.
Really big fan! Are you guys planning on doing a U.S Tour anytime soon? I would live to see you guys live. We're currently in the US supporting the National. In terms of our tour... I'm not sure.. we'll probably have to write more music first so we don't come and just play the same songs over and over again. R.
Hey Daughter! I'm Laura, and I met you guys last summer when you opened for The National. I wish there was a way to thank you for what your music has done for me. I've been listening to the Air Studios songs a ton since they've been released. How was your experience working with Joe Duddell? Hey Laura! :) Thank you for listening to the Air songs! It was such a great experience! We had worked with Joe before at a festival and we enjoyed it so much we wanted to do it again. We were lucky enough to included more musicians this time, and they are all so talented! It was really exciting to be a part of! E x.
Hello daughter:) i love your music so much. i especially love your sound. drenched with beautiful large hall reverb, just the way i like it. my question is for Igor. what was it like producing the album? was this the first time producing an album, or have you done this before with other musicians? were there any moments where you were "stuck" or did everything go smoothly during the production of If You Leave? also what is your inspiration for your music and atmosphere(the chilling reverb on vocal tracks, guitar tracks, etc), also, what pedals do you use. what is your favorite and most use when on a gig? Hey! That's a lot of questions but I'll go for the production ones. I'm really just an amateur with a passion for music and I've been learning as I go along. We didn't want to go down the traditional route of having a hot producer make a record for us. We wanted to do it, we wanted feel like it really came from us and just us. I guess I was the one with the most experience (and the biggest mouth) to helm that side of things. Things were definitely not smooth but none of us would have wanted it otherwise. I could have probably spent 3 more years working on it but I really appreciate now how it documented that time in our "career". It feels right and we were blown away by the response. Since then I've worked on a track with Kyla La Grange for her new album and production is definitely a side of things I want to explore more in the future. IH.
I feel your music is very cinematographic, what are your favorite movies? "Pan's Labyrinth" is always so wonderful to watch, "Amour" made me cry so much. I saw "Rear Window" the Hitchcock film really recently, I'd never seen it before, I thought it was beautiful. "Let the right one in" (The original) is amazing. "La Haine" was a favourite of mine when I was growing up. Igor showed me "Rust and Bone" last week, which was beautiful... I don't know! I have too many favourites! haha! E x
Who are your idols? Jeff Buckley was a big idol for me growing up! It was the first time I heard music that felt like it melted my brain it was so great! haha E x
Dogs or cats? Cats. Although I love dogs too. IH.
Dogs! all the way! I like the small silly looking guys the best! ...Cats know too much - they freak me out. E x.
DOGS FTW. R.
Whatever. IH.
Hello! Massive fan. Saw you guys in Norwich back in October. First of all, I just wanted to say thanks for making cool music. You guys are awesome. You're so humble and understated when on stage and always seem to be genuinely thankful to everyone for coming to the show. Have you been writing any new songs whilst on tour? Or will you wait until after the tour has finished to try and come up with new stuff? We wait for the tour to be finished. Speaking for myself, I like to have a bit more space to take the time to experiment and find the right sounds. It can be sometimes a slow process aswell as boring for the others. I do like to mess with my laptop on tour from time to time when inspiration strikes though. IH
Thanks for doing the AMA! I'm always curious of bands perception and experience with SXSW. Did you enjoy doing the festival and did you get a good value/exposure/coverage as a result of doing it? Any favorite part of the festival (other than sleeping after it's over)? SXSW = crazy times. We only played 5 shows in a week which is nothing compared to what some artists and bands do. The weekend got a little too rowdy for us. The streets are packed. The start of the week is much nicer. Most people are there for the music and having a good time. Austin is such a cool city aswell. I couldn't really tell you what exact impact it had but we didn't definitely enjoyed it. Playing at Willie Nelson's Ranch while the sun was setting was definitely a highlight. IH.
Last one, I swear: What would be your biggest song-writing tip(s) on guitar? Tunings/scales/theory/less theory/effects? All of those but none of those. It all depends on what you're trying to achieve. I personally like to play it by ear but use theory to understand what I'm actually doing. And obviously, I like my effects! IH.
Who are some of the more remarkable people you've met touring? All the people behind the scenes who dedicate their lives to making live music happen with little to no interest in making more than what they need to live. IH.
Kurt Vile! :) E x.
We were all stunned by the Air Studio performances. How was that experience, playing with an orchestra in such a beautiful atmosphere? Spine-tingling. IH.
When you played at Lincoln hall last year, you mentioned that you liked the pizza and the pizza. What else did you like about Chicago now that you're back again?? It sounds silly but I like the Union Station. I once took a Megabus from Minneapolis to Chicago and I was really excited to get off the bus and chill there. R.
What reverb pedal does Igor mostly use? Thanks! Eventide Space! I use it on every single song live. IH.
When is your birthday? ON SUNDAY! Jussayin :) R.
June 17th.
15th of January! :) E x.
I saw you live at the Eden Project with sigur ros, and you guys were amazing. What's your favourite sigur ros track? It's hard to choose and as I just said I don't like favourites. But "Gong" is definitely up there! IH.
I like of their songs, but surprisingly i have never been good at remembering the names... I know all the lyrics tho :) R.
How are concert tickets sourced and distributed? What are the different contracts involved with venues, promoters, artists, artist managers, booking agents, sponsors, and other parties that touch tickets? Link to www.amazon.com
IH.
How have relationships with former friends and family change after touring so often? Do some people try to get closer to you now that the band is flourishing? Most of my friends have been successful musicians before I was (if you can say that i am..) so on that note I was probably the guys staying closer to them :) R.
Where did you meet each other? I'm curious. I London, we were in College together. R.
Remi, I followed your tumblr when you had it for a while, and I was so sad to see you deleted it! I really enjoyed your photography. Is there any other place you share the photos you take? Oh wow thanks. I'm working on it. It should be ready in a couple weeks hopefully and then I'll share the photos once more. Glad you liked it. R.
What's your perfect Sunday? It's summer time. There is a roast chicken in the oven, it's warm so you decide to eat outside. After that you take a nap while the Tour de France is on tv in the background. Wake up 10 minutes from the end (when the exciting stuff happens). Then later you go to a Dire Strait reunion concert. ahahah Remi.
Obviously...
Hey ! i loved your concert in france a couple of months ago ! So, in your opinion, is there any negative aspects of being famous? :) x. Are we famous? IH.
What's it like touring America? It seems like it'd be the coolest thing to do ever, but I don't know if you're all as stupidly excited by American culture as me.. There's definitely a vibe over here you won't get anywhere else in the world. We're always excited to come back. There is a lot to discover! IH.
Hey gaizzz! how was singapore at laneway? big fan! :) It was incredible. Pretty warm but awesome. The setting in the Botanical Gardens was pretty spectacular. R.
Hi guys! will you ever do a show in Florida? Hopefully, one day! IH.
Favorite tv shows? The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones (I still haven't seen S04 so don't spoil it ) . R.
What artitst(s) inspired you to start your musical career? Also where can I buy some daughter apparel to support my favorite band! Probably my drum teacher, just because he it hadn't been him, I probably would have stopped playing when I was in my teens. But after moving to London I got into Folk/ Alternative a lot more and got obsessed with Laura Marling's music. R.
Could you describe the moment or phase when you noticed that doing music would be a decent way to earn a living? Was there a "lets just try and see" moment? Saw you in Cologne some months ago, still stunned :) I tried and saw by moving to London. That's how I met Elena and then Remi. IH.
What's the song you're most proud of? Human is a fun one to play, unless i haven't warmed up and then it becomes really hard to play... (I really should have made an easier drum part) R.
Igor, I'd love to know what your pedalboard looks like and how you get those amazing walls of sound during live performances. My girlfriend and I saw you guys play in Toronto during the summer and I was absolutely blown away by your huge sound during the climax of each song. Also, who are your biggest influences, musical or not? Delay, reverb and a strong right hand :) . Sometimes you can forget that your playing affects the sound as much as the pedals. I love movies, particularly the cinematography side of it. It helps my inspiration and to visualise sound. IH.
Hey guys, when you go come to Brazil? We love you xx. I would love to! But I would want to have some time off after or before for a couple days. I love Brazilian music so I would want to go explore. R.
What is your favourite drink? Nonalcoholic: Water with a splash of OJ alcoholic: gin & tonic; although I was trying to come up with cocktail ideas the other day and 2/5orange juice 2/5ginger beer and 1/5 gin (or dark rum) was pretty good. R.
Remi, do you remember Jihea? We met her a couple of months ago... She's playing with EG now. Somehow everything leads back to OH.. ;) I know. Small world! She is a good friend I'm glad she's part of the Ellie Goulding crew. I love these guys (Joe, Simon, Chris). Remi.
If each of you didn't have a career in music what job would you of had? Maybe something related to Photography? R.
How did you get the idea to use a double bass bow on a guitaelectric bass? Jonsi & Jimmy Page. I like the double bass bow better than the cello bow though. I feel like it helps the guitar sound a little more like an actual cello. IH
When is your favorite time in one day? Early Afternoon. Duh :) Can't be used for brunch OR nap . R
Tell me something funny that happened on tour. Any languages you wished you mastered? dutch for instance :) English ahah. I spend two weeks in France with my family and I feel like i need to start all over again.. R.
I just think you guys are absolutely brilliant. What a piece of advice would you offer up for a young musician trying to make it? Be truthful, don't do something for the sake of doing it. Trust your instincts and persevere. IH.
Don't try to make it. Enjoy doing what you are doing and with a bit of luck (and a lot of work) you can "make it". Don't be scared to be involved in a few different projects/bands, you never know what can happen. Someone you played with a couple years ago, might have become the biggest musician on the planet and is looking for someone to play with him... and BOOM he remembers all the fun time he had on stage with you... And always be nice to everybody (your crew, venue crews even if they aren't nice to you). R.
Question for Remi, how did you decide to set your kit up the way you do? I think it's awesome when drummers deviate from the traditional set up, though I think it'd take me some getting use to. My teacher from the age of 6til I was 19 was a big jazz drummer. I have always been a big fan of "less is more". He showed me a video of Max Roach doing a solo using just a HiHat and it was amazing. You end up seeing your drums differently when you have less stuff. (a rim can become some sort of cymbal; a floor tom can be a kick...etc) R.
What's your favorite sport? Rugby. R.
Snowboarding. I barely surf anymore and I miss it so much but I need to watch my right wrist as I've fractured in two times already and I want to keep on playing guitar :) . IH.
Which you've played gig is the most memorable to you? Tons. Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver was a pretty great one. People went for it. IH.
Igor, what is your favorite color? plz say its orange haha... jk. Orange. There I said it ! I don't like favourites though. It's always a bit more complicated than that. IH.
Do you guys like cheese? I don't. And I'm part-Swiss, part-French so I guess it makes things even worse... IH x.
What is your favorite Disney movie of ALL time? Lion King or Jungle Book.. can't possibly decide! R.
Hi guys, i'm a fan from Italy, after the 4AD session when the new album will come out? I'm impatient p.s. please reply me this time. Probably not for while. Patience is a virtue my friend! IH.
Who's your favourite Spice Girl? I can't choose. I love them all so much. IH.
Do you like bands like Enter Shikari, Biffy Clyro, Two Door Cinema Club? I love TDCC and Biffy Clyro. I have to say I'm not super familiar with Enter Shikari but I liked what I heard... R.
Who are some small artists you like that people should know about? For me it's Wilsen, Snow Manteled Love and Tigertown. We all love Wilsen. They played some shows with us during one of our US tours! IH.
Hi guys , I love the drums sounds in your album ! Where did you record them ? Thanks . We recorded most of them at 123 Studio in Bethnal Green with Brett Shaw who is an amazing engineer and super experienced at recording drums. Thanks :) IH.
Continue to make great music, i love you, Cheers from Indonesia ♥ Thank you we'll try :) I hope we can make it to Indonesia some day! R.
You signed my shoe at Liverpool Anglican cathedral... just wanted to say that it was quite easily the best live music I have ever seen :) Shoe! Shoe! Shoe! E x.
The first few times I saw you guys, Elena started laughing half way through a song. WHAT WAS SO FUNNY I MUST KNOW ps. my fave was at The Great Escape when Igor played the Xylophone and messed it up. Yup. You can see why I gave that up pretty quickly ;) IH.
Hey there! I don't have a question for you, but I just wanted to say that I love you infinitely. Your music means a lot to me. Thank you for existing. (Btw, Remi, you signed my shoe too, in November last year (in Belgium), thank you for that!) Why do I keep on signing shoes; i need to stop that! :) R.
Igor, I just want to say that I always enjoy watching you play, especially during Home. It seems like that's one of the songs you guys get into the most! Thanks! The build-up definitely gets to me each time. IH.
I've seen you during your performance in Paris last year. If I remember well, it's almost the birthday of Rémi, so Joyeux anniversaire. Merci, and believe it or not but it'll be my birthday this year as well! jussayin.. ;) Rémi.
Please list some of your favourite films! The 5th Element, Star Wars, and any Coen Brothers movies. R.
Don't call me daughter. Saw these guys play in London a few years ago. it was Friday: Pearl Jam, Saturday: Stevie Wonder, Sunday Paul McCartney...best weekend of my life!! R.
I just wanted to say thank you to Elena for literally saving my life with her songs. i love you, you are my biggest inspiration and without you I would've never come this far. Xox dena. please respond it would mean the world. Thank you! So lovely to talk to you, It means so much to me that you enjoy our music, and it's beautiful to think that thoughts I've had and written down when i'm feeling alone can share a meaning with someone else's thoughts and feelings. I hope everything is going well for you! love, E x.
Hi guys, i'm a big fan! I saw you in Milan and I spoke with Elena in the morning even though I don't speak english. I just wanted to know whether you'll be coming back to Milan soon Elena miss your hugs Hey! I'm not sure when we will be back! Hopefully it won't be too long a wait! My mother is Italian and my family are actually from a village quite near to Milan! So I went there a lot as a kid! :) E x
It was fun to do this. You guys just have such a nice relationship with your fans! I can't thank you guys enough for even considering responding to me. Thank you! Thanks for being so supportive. Without you guys we wouldn't be where we are now. R
Favourite superhero. Go! Question.. are you letting me include any of the xmen characters? R.
Yes Wolverine. I wouldn't pick any characters that can fly, I'm scared of heights so my superpower would be pretty pointless... R.

Questions Answers
So, how hard is the course really? Baltimore Finals was difficult (the 2nd round of Baltimore)... especially the Body Prop. Check the youtube video... it SUCKED. Link to www.youtube.com
Body Prop was hard huh? That's why you did a flip right after it because I'm sure it sooo wore you out. Just kidding man. Pretty epic and much respect to you for being able to pull that off. And good luck with your fiancee. Adrenaline is an amazing thing… hahaha.
Watching the show I am always confident that I can complete the obstacles. Maybe I should just try out to prove once and for all if it is just harder than it looks. I am an avid rock climber so I am sure that would come in handy (way more than whack-ass free-running would). Haha we'll then get ur butt on the show!
Yeah, that seems impossible for the short contestants. Or is it adjustable in anyway? I'd say if you're shorter than 5'3" you probably wouldn't make it through stage one of Las Vegas.
Definitely was adjustable
Is it scaled differently to the Japanese course? Our course is a little different, bigger, which makes it harder... You'll see, BIG surprises for after the season ends on Monday Night!!!
When you get to each obstacle course, how thoroughly do you get to examine the course? Do they go over the rules of each obstacle in detail or give any tips or advice? We have somebody that is the rules director on the course. We do a walk-through of the entire course and we get to watch a tester runner before the actual competition starts. But other than that, we don't even get to touch the course until the very first time we step on the starting platform. Scariest crap of my life.
Do you think that most falls in round one are just flukes that occur over such a large number of obstacles? Or do you think that the obstacles are legitimately that hard that people really can't do them? Cause when I watch it on tv each individual obstacle doesn't really seem that hard. Or is it harder in real life than it appears on tv? It depends on the person... most competitors are very atheltic, so they should have been able to beat the obstacle... but (and I'll be very straight forward here) some people are just plain stupid sometimes... Also, the pressure sometimes gets the best of the person too!
How much you bench? what do you think of makoto nagano and yuuji urashihara? Ummm about 190lbs 10 times. Nagano and Yuuji are awesome!
How had was it to train for ANW? Training wasn't too difficult. I've done sports all my life, so I really just focused on biceps (tons of chin ups every day, 25 per set), and finger strength. Everything else was natural athletics from years and years of sports.
When you show up to the qualifiers, does everyone get a chance to try their hand at the course? If not, how is it decided who will get a chance? That's an amazing question. I was selected through the application process because I had a pretty good story, but the walk online that showed up would be there almost 3 days before the actual course is run. Unfortunately not everyone gets to run and I really don't know how they pick people out of the line... I think it's really first come first serve.
I see. I want to do ninja warrior so bad but I don't live near any of the qualifying cities. I also would have a pretty bad back story. "Semi-athletic guy who likes watching ninja warrior on tv and hasn't trained for it a day in his life" lol. It looks like so much fun! Yeah… Unfortunately not everyone has an equal chance the on that show. What I can suggest is that you try to find some local gyms that train for American ninja warrior. Tell me what city your from and I can try to help you with where to find the nearest ninja warrior training facility!!
I'm from a small city in upstate NY. I guarantee there's not a training facility within 100 miles of me lol. Hmmm I live in Connecticut... Drive down here!
CT? I live there too! Is there a gym in CT where you can train for ANW? A few... Check Vasi's gym in Newtown (I work there) for gymnastics stuff... And GCA in Fairfield for Ninja Warrior events!
Fuck yeah! I literally live about a half mile away from the GCA. Why didn't I know about this years ago? If you'd like to meet, I'll be at Carabiner's (literally next door) Thursday night to continue my rock climbing training!
Did you build your own obstacles at home to practice? Yes, I have little bits of the UCH (ultimate cliff hanger) and the roulette cylinder. I also have a salmon ladder I've been training on at the gym.
Wow that's awesome! Did your local gym support you through out the adventure? They let me build in the gym! So I'd say they were great supporters!!!
Is there a place where you can get the dimensions of all of the obstacles? Not really... Google and fellow ninjas.
Did you do any sports in high or college? If so what sports? (And then the obligatory question. If the Weatherman wins, Is Weatherman going to MAKE IT RAIN!?) Tons of sports, baseball, basketball, soccer, and xcountry (in high school). I made the team in college for baseball, but quit because of my schedule in meteorology... I couldn't do iy.
Sup bro? Hey man! How are you doing?
Good. Just chillin'. Twerkin'. Good luck, hope you win all the dollars. :)
I know the prize is a half million dollars if you make it all the way through. Is there any prizes awarded for making it to any other milestones? The fastest competitor from each region in their regional qualifiers and regional finals gets $2500 and $5000. So basically I missed first place in regional finals by .37 seconds… I'm so pissed.
So no prize for making to the 2nd or 3rd round? Damn that sucks it seems like that should get you pretty decent prize. I've been telling myself that the prize that I get is to be on TV… I guess that works right? Haha.
Aren't you a weatherman? Lol yes.
Yes, now you are famous! Wooo ❤
Which obstacles are easier than they look? And which ones are harder than they look? Also how intimidating is the Spider Jump? It was intimidating, but not hard.
Some contestants seem to devote so much time and effort to training for this competition. Literally years of their lives. Considering that nobody has actually beat the course and it's such an incredibly low chance of making it through and collecting the prize, why take it so seriously? Confidence is a blessing, but at the same time our greatest downfall. I know I have what it takes to be the first American ninja warrior, the question is, when it comes down to doing it, can I be at 100% and make a simple mistake... But now that I need to stage III, the amount of simple mistakes that lay in front of me are much less than what there was before.
Is this a hunger games situation? Will your popularity help you do better? if so GO JOE! Hahah I wish!
Any advice for the middle aged, chubby guy who feels motivated after the show but just can't quite hold onto it? Get up and get motivated to change something in your life! Find a work out partner, helps A LOT.
Do a lot of people get hurt running the courses? Some obstacles seem pretty dangerous. I probably shouldn't say this… But I guess I'll do it anyway. One of the Harlem Globetrotters broke his leg in the Baltimore regionals. I know it wasn't Bull Bullard, it was one of the other ones that they didn't show on TV.
Wow how'd be break his leg? Which obstacle do you know? Yeah I definitely remember how he did it… He was jumping off the prism tilt to that swing jump obstacle.
What's the hardest obstacle you've ever seen? The hardest obstacle I've ever seen had to been on the latest Japanese version of the show… It was sort of like the ultimate cliffhanger… But you hang just by the very tips of your fingers, no more than half an inch and you have to climb something like 10 feet across a wooden grip. It looked absolutely awful and I would never be able be that without some sort of hard-core training.
Are you going to try and simulate it at your gym or something? Eventually.
How will you celebrate if you win? Cry hahah.
2 questions if I'm not too late. (1) What is your work out routine? and (2) what's your favorite ab exercise? Muscle ups, chin ups, levers, and some bench press to keep my chest relatively appropriate or my arms. I like to run too! Ab work outs usually consist of backflips, v-ups, and levers
Have you considered doing wipeout next? I have, but I don't feel like getting made fun of... Lol.
On a scale from 1 to 10 what was the intensity level while on the obstacle coarse? 1000.
How much have you interacted with the other competitors and has it affected your thoughts on the competition? I have, and I think it's helped mostly... Sometimes your confidence drops because they are amazing athletes, but overall it's positive.
What goes through your head when the horn blows to start? Trying to not let the nerves control you... Because I was freaking the f*#%# out. Hahaha.
Do you have a favorite/funnest obstacle? Also, you're awesome man. Salmon ladder is awesome.
I could of missed the answer to this but how long have you trained just for this ? I trained for a good year easily.
I've seen a lot of really good people fall on easier obstacles, how much luck would you say is involved ? Definitely need a little luck.
Hi, much respect for getting as far as you did. Are you going to try to do more rock climbing type activities, since it seems the 3rd stage is all about grip? Also is the event shot all in one day in Vegas? Thanks man, I have been rock climbing... definitely. Just wait, I'll do better next year. And Stage 2 and 3 were in the same day.. which sucked.
Good luck next year, will be rooting for you. Hopefully you recuperate well between those truly brutal stages. Thanks, ill train harder than ever.
What is the hardest obstacle youve encountered? And what was the closest you came to falling? Anyways Good luck man!! Im rooting for you! Almost fell on the unstable bridge in stage 2!!
That looks so hard!!! Did you train for that at all? Trained big time.
Awesome! Any advice? I want to try the course when im older. I do parkour, but not much strength training. Train biceps, BIG TIME, also, fingertips and grip strength, and make sure your cardio is good!
Train, that's the advice, lol.
What it is like to compete on the show in later rounds? Tons of fun, but a lot of pressure!
Do you hear the voice over commentary from the "hosts" while you're running the course? I wish.
What about the delay in broadcasting time? How soon after your run does it air? About 2 months!!!
Hey Joe! My last name is identical to yours, except I have "i" instead of "y". I wonder if there is some connection, does your family have some ties with eastern Europe? REALLY?! That's really cool! PM me on facebook! www.facebook.com/AmericanNinjaJoe.
Is any part of the show fake? Nope!
Aww, saw you fall on the weird block/rectangle thing obstacle :/ good try though. Does it hurt when you fall? It looked like you almost banged your head :o. EDIT: just saw the "big surprise", best of luck :P. It sucked... Hitting the water... But no pain, just upsetting... But hey, next year will be my year.
I'm a bit late but how did you feel about the guy who almost beat stage 3 on Mt. Midoriyama? I have mixed feelings... He's awesome, but I suppose I'm a little jealous. I also was rooting for him 100% so if he had one that night if be right there happy for him... But now watching it on TV I'm happy he didn't make it, because, as much as I like him... I WANT to be the first American Ninja Warrior.
Well I'll be rooting for you next year, and it has nothing to so with answering me on this AMA okaymaybealittle. <333.
Link to media.tumblr.com. Haha, jk. Lol.
Also, just wanted to comment, I was not aware you had been a redditor for a year and a half. Officially rooting for you next year. :)
I remember watching you in Baltimore. You were amazing. I kinda lost interest in the show after your run so congratulations. Where did you learn of that competition? Friend of a friend was on the show... And I had always watched it but never got the inspiration to try it until I met him... And so here I am!
How many pullups and pushups can you do? I want to compare myself to a successful runner in the show because I want to do it some year. 25-30 without stopping, and dead hang... Which is when you lower yourself 100% of the way down before coming up again.
Do you feel that the odds are unfairly stacked against the contestants? Stage 3 looked ridiculous -- everything seemed to focus on grip! Congratulations on your great run! Thank you. It wasn't unrealistic... Next year will be the year.
It seemed like Stage 2 was a bit easier than last year's (while still being terribly difficult!). The first obstacle seemed easier (no one went out on it, compared to last season) and the barrel roll distance seemed shorter... Again, not trying to imply that Stage 2 wasn't difficult, but would you agree that it was easier than the year prior? Totally agree.
This might be weird but i watch this show a lot... Not weird.
Not really a question but you're pretty hot and got fans in Texas! Hhaha awww that's very sweet 😊
LOL the knee bend. Those commentators are dumb. Agreed hahah.
Omg, weird, I know you. I was kyla's roommate at simmons, the semester before she moved back to CT. Hahahah awesome! What's up!?
