My Queer Story (for those who need it)

2020.09.19 20:29 its_just_quin My Queer Story (for those who need it)

Hello. My name is Quin. I lived with my witness aunt and uncle for two years and now live with a foster family and my cat :)
I’m here to share my story for any who have struggled or are currently struggling with being queer in a religion where that is not only unacceptable, but causes much tension and often leads to psychological abuse.
To give a bit of context, my father was an alcoholic and later became depressed and committed suicide when I was 11. My mother, my two sisters and I all moved up to Oregon for a period of about five months a couple months after he died. Then we moved to Fresno, California, with my grandfather after that, which is where I had my first encounter with my aunt and uncle.
They would come over to visit my grandfather (a non JW, mind you) every few weeks and would help us out as well. They’d buy us food, help us clean, etc. When they saw we were struggling (my mom was out of a job and struggling with schizo affective disorder) they decided to try and help.
“Jaime,” they said to my mom, “why don’t you let us take the girls for the summer so you can try to get back on your feet?”
My mom had agreed that this might be a good idea so she decided to sign a form giving temporary guardianship to them (in case we wanted a library card or anything of that nature).
I was dating a girl at the time who I’ll call N. N and I had been dating a few months (good considering we were in eighth grade), so when we moved, I wanted to continue talking to her. Knowing my aunt and uncle were religious (not knowing the extent of which, of course), I’d told them she was a good friend of mine. One of my younger sisters were aware of the actual nature of our relationship, but she had decided not to say anything.
They told us we had to go to meetings, but we’re not required to take notes or answer or anything like that. I didn’t, but my sister, seeing how my aunt and uncle treated her after she showed interest, decided to do all of these things. By the end of the summer both my sisters (age 12 and 6) were full PIMI, and I had begun questioning my stance as an atheist.
Because of this, my sister had decided to tell my aunt and uncle that I was dating a girl. They say me down and asked if I was a lesbian. I said I wasn’t—I was terrified. I blamed my attraction on my circumstances, that I was desperate and craved affection. They said: “It’s okay, we can help you through this.”
Eventually they gained custody of us for the school year and later permanent guardianship. For about three months into the school year I was full PIMI, offering watchtowers to friends and preaching every weekend for four or five hours, studying regularly, commenting. “Spiritual.”
Then I began waking up. I was struggling with a lot of internalized homophobia, but it was always cool if my friends were queer. I tried to be as supportive as possible to all of them and I remembered how real my feelings for N were and then began to ask why Jehovah had made me this way if it was wrong. I couldn’t shake the attraction to females, and I didn’t know if I ever could.
So I began an experiment in the second semester of eighth grade: have a crush on a boy. I knew it was wrong to date if you didn’t wanna marry, especially if it was not within the religion. But I wanted to prove to everyone that I was straight and that if I couldn’t be, Jehovah could help me overcome my feelings. So I got a boy that I thought was cool. M.
We started dating towards the end of eighth grade. And... I was experiencing romantic attraction to him! Yay!
But I’d go to the meetings, and whenever they spoke about homosexuality I couldn’t help but wonder if I really liked that guy or if I was just trying to do my damndest to be straight. I mean, come on, Mary was very beautiful, no lies.
I also began realizing that Jehovah’s Witnesses were HIGHKEY misogynistic. Your husband needs to say the prayers, you’re there to create children. Etc. etc. And I realized that I was more of a believer in equal roles as partners. Both parents are the heads of the households. Not only that, but they didn’t believe in choosing sides politically in a country where we are actually allowed to do that! In many places they don’t get to choose, and I figured even as a freshman in high school that maybe we should take advantage of the fact that we have a say in how our country is run.
I didn’t agree with a lot of their teachings, and didn’t understand a lot of their logic when it came to them. At this point I was PIMO. And I looked very spiritual, too. But at school I had a boyfriend, I cursed, joked about Jehovah. Complained about service and how I couldn’t hang with friends after school. I was living a double life
Second semester of freshman year I told my boyfriend that I was gay. Our relationship had reached a sexual nature and I just was not into it. I kinda freaked out. But he was very kind and understanding (thanks, M).
A few days later my sister (still PIMI) asked if I had a boyfriend. I said no. She then told me she was suspicious of me. At this point I was already debating coming out to my family and decided, ahhh what the heck?! So I responded very emotionally: “You know why I don’t have a boyfriend? Because I’m a fricking LESBIAN!”
She was very upset, she told me to read the Bible and pray to god and yada yada. THEN, she went and camped out in the living room until my aunt and uncle came home. Some other stuff in my life was going on and I tried to take my life.
I was in and out of hospitals, struggling with suicide and a small drinking problem. Their comments make me sick, this is not how you parent your children:
“Oh, drawing a girl? Hope she ends up with clothes on.”
“Yeah, we for sure used to have more vodka.”
Etc.
It wasn’t until my THERAPIST told them that I shouldn’t go to meetings that they stopped making me. But of course we still had family bible study and stuff. When they’d do that, they’d invite people over and bake cookies and stuff. When I finally came out from my room, I wasn’t allowed to eat the cookies, those were for those that participated.
I had finally had enough. I was begging my social worker to send me to a GROUP HOME because I figured I’d be more accepted there than at my aunt and uncle’s place.
My social worker told me she didn’t want to resort to that just yet. I ended up getting hospitalized a seventh time, and while I was away, my aunt and uncle signed me off to be a ward of the court.
In short, I stayed at a group home for a year (a whole different story), but now I’m out and I live with a spiritual family who accepts me for who I am, because the Bible tells us to love one another. I myself struggle with with organized religion but I don’t deny there is a god. I don’t pray or practice anything. I don’t feel pressured to anymore. I don’t have to worry about how my family or my spirituality appears to the congregation.
All this to say it gets better. You’re not wrong for same sex attraction. You’re not gonna die for loving a woman or a man or both or neither. You’re not a sinner for “choosing” to be gay, bi, trans, etc. And if you need anyone to talk to, I am here.
Thanks for taking the time to read my first post ever, despite how long winded it is.

Prior to moving to Lake Oswego, Clarethel lived in Eugene for 60 years. Clarethel was born in 1922 in Roseburg, Ore. At age 16 she enrolled at the University of Oregon. During WWII Clarethel enlisted in the Women's Army Corps and earned the rank of Sergeant. Clarethel's granddaughter described her as follows, "Clarey was my role model, no nonsense with a heart of gold. She knew how to make change and get things done. If you were lucky enough to know sweet Clare, you know she did all of this while wearing a dress, heels, red lipstick and matching nails!"

2020.09.18 20:43 dogetty Verification of Liability. Human Trafficking My Grandchildren

RE: leach sabrina alberta branch Wendy Polzel Alicia Reynolds Sherrelle Jackson 541 969 2738 District Manager [email protected] 1 message
Marilyn LeBaron [email protected] Wed, Feb 26, 2020 at 9:27 AM To: Marilyn LeBaron [email protected], Marilyn LeBaron [email protected], "[email protected]" [email protected], "[email protected]" [email protected], "Bittick, Richard" [email protected] Cc: Metzger Soren K [email protected], "[email protected]" [email protected], "[email protected]" [email protected], "[email protected]" [email protected], Erica Hayne Friedman [email protected] Dear recipients of this email,
Could you please have a talk since all you do is have star chamber proceeding about family matters in place of a trial in open court which is capitol felony treason – but since that is your method maybe you could do that to Helmar Lochmann since it is about child abuse and under the scope of star legalized chamber proceedings you could bring him to justice the same way.
No, but criminals have all the rights which is not equal protection of the law and another count of capital felony treason.
Notice of Liability for aiding capital felony treason for adhering to the enemy of your nation for allowing criminal sentencing of myself and two fictitious plaintiffs since an act of prudent protection after identifying a perpetrator of egregious child abuse and torture is not a criminal act since Mens Rea is how all the bureaucrats get away with treason know being properly schooled in law not having the state of mind in opposite of ignorance is no excuse which is not equal protection of the law and actually another felony
Notice of Criminal Liability witness tampering by not allowing family to gain access to the testimonies of their kin when held for surety and their mother is dying in the streets and you all drain her surety and do not hospitalize her to save her life while not providing her bus passes or making sure there is a way to comply and providing her with ample support to comply.
All three of my heirs are material witnesses against Helmar Lochmann and his abuses and you separate the witnesses which allow for criminals to intimidate them into silence while you just waif of the material witness to die without fully deposing her or sealing the case. See: Rod Underhill
Notice of Liability aiding and abetting after the fact misprision felony with all its penalties and emotional harm after the fact by separating them with a promise of reunification and then do not reunify my heirs putting my grandson with a single gay man as if he is a concubine or a paedophile dating service instead of putting him with family
Please inform me if the District attorney of Multnomah County has collected and sealed all the record, emails, and telephone records, including text message between Helmar Lichman and my daughter on the matters pertaining to Victoria Couvillion and Nolan Stevens whose Christian names include middle initial RD and J respectively. Since Helmar Lochman acted in an egregious manner torturing my daughter making it hard for her to comply while he put my heirs in harm's way also denying me contact to isolate them
Please show me where the method of gaining a visitation schedule is posted in order to make your denial of visits legal as I recently learned each and everything you do or don’t do has to be specifically defined and enumerated before such actions ro avoidance of acting.
Hello, I’m inquiring as to why I never get to see my grandkids?
[email protected]; [email protected];
I'm contacting you because the child abuse hotline has assigned two new social workers ([email protected]; [email protected];) now since the other workers were removed based on objections pertaining to the conflict of interest between DHS Alberta Branch and Gresham Branch dating back to 2005 through 2006 between my kin based on things not available to my abilities to weigh fact a law upon back then nor today allowed to know what is in the record when bringing up old abated matters - which I believe were not presented to the seated Linda Hughes which needs verification.
The civil subject matter concerning the jurisdiction of DHS and the criminal allegations under criminal venue not under actual investigation, since I am by law required to be notified when under criminal investigation at the earliest stage of an investigation to allow a refute by and independent investigative body independent form Juvenile Justice Complex subject matter belonging the JJC District Attorney. If there is any criminal investigation going on in Multnomah County regarding bureaucrat protection could you please educate the DHS of the right to presumption of innocence, the right to a Trial by Jury of my peers, prior to being punished or penalize, while that right should extend to any other party suffering from the same punishment or penalty, where the Right to Trial by Jury must be waved in writing according to the Oregon Bill of Rights.
If you could please offer your guidance here please to the DHS
I would appreciate your quash the Diligent Efforts ruling made by the JJC since the matter has been abated years and years ago

Can you find which ones?

  4. DHS will wait to bring you to trial, with the case they choose to cite, though never proved. a. Yes No

  6. DHS do not have the obligation of PRESENTMENT, for something never proved. a. Yes No
  7. DHS can build another case against you even if they never proved the previous matter. a. Yes No

  10. A judge can keep you from visiting your children while a case is closed, on the case DHS choose to cite. a. Yes No

  12. DHS can try you on the spot at the Juvenile Department, without a proper 'SUMMON'. a. Yes No
  13. DHS can 'appear' in person, anywhere, any time, not tell you they are coming, and their presence is equivalent to a trial. a. Yes No

  15. DHS findings are final, though the burden of proof is not met beyond a reasonable doubt. a. Yes No
  16. DHS can take your children basing their 'findings' on statistics alone, till they take you to court for something never proved, not having been subject to proper PRESENTMENT when required. a. Yes No
  17. The court can ignore Pro-se attempts to gain discovery, {PRESENTMENT}, because a citizen is not familiar with the legal process. a. Yes No

  26. DHS does not have to Fully Advise you of the nature of their questioning process though their 'findings' bear the weight of an 'adjudication'. a. Yes No
  27. The 'voice' of the 'WHOLE VILLAGE', 'DHS case working staff', is not the equivalent of the voice of 'We the People' of the United States of America, the duties represented as THE BEST INTERESTS OF JUSTICE, the 'voice' of the DA. a. Yes No

  40. The burden of proof is not on the DHS by a direct examination of doctor reports they never ordered to see. a. Yes No
  41. DHS can at any time, regarding the report of medical neglect, order a release of information into doctor patient privilege and ignore the initial allegation. a. Yes No
  42. DHS can forward their clinical diagnosis, without direct examination of an intended client, in lieu of a release thereto, when that person does not want to be their client, SAY they represent the child, BEST INTERESTS, and the parent, too. a. Yes No
  43. DHS can represent child and parent, by way of parents Social Security Number, as their intended clients, though they have no license to practice law, as Counsel of Choice, and have no Professional Rules of Conduct which includes privilege. a. Yes No
  44. Though a law firm cannot, when there is a conflict of interest, represent both parent and the intended complainant, the DHS case worker can, complainant being the child, requiring the complainee, the parent, cooperate and allow access to all their private information and witnesses, though the DHS is the opposing party. a. Yes No
  45. The DHS does not have to press a criminal allegation in order to subject you to 'ADMINISTRATIVE' LAW and there is no plea available or acquittal, because 'ADMINISTRATIVE LAW' is not the criminal justice system subject to definitions thereto. a. Yes No
  46. DHS can press obstruction charges where there is no plea, where the rules of evidence do not apply, if you do not sign a release of information, when you have no lawyer to guard against prejudice. a. Yes No
  47. DHS can punish you with criminal prosecution by way of obstruction charges if you do not participate with 'ADMINISTRATION' over a 'non'crime, and you have no lawyer, and they do not tell you why they are threatening to kick in your door. a. Yes No
  48. It is reasonable for the DHS to say, ''The case is closed we are not answering your letters'', but ''We intend to take you to court someday and prevent you from visiting your children in the meantime.'' a. Yes No
  49. It is reasonable for the DHS to allege possible inferences towards child abuse or neglect not provide you a lawyer while assessing, and decide relevancy issues over something they stated has no reasonable cause to believe child abuse or neglect occurred. a. Yes No
  50. It is reasonable for a judge to deny PRESENTMENT prior to a trial, and then order PRESENTMENT continuing a proceeding, after inferences toward child abuse or neglect resulted in a closed case. a. Yes No
  51. It is just that the DHS make decisions that affect you longer that any felonious act would, and you have to provide your own lawyer, at your own expense, if you disagree with their opinion. a. Yes No
  52. DHS should represent your doctor, your child, you, though that is a conflict of interest, and a judge should not provide you a lawyer when his 'ORDER' is DHS come to his court room. a. Yes No
  53. DHS can represent both parent and child, even when there is not enough evidence to substantiate an allegation. a. Yes No
  54. Complaining about DHS staff is to be seen as obsessive and compulsive disorder and you should be brought to court in chains if the judge does not agree to allow a MOTION FOR TELEPHONIC TESTIMONY. a. Yes No
  55. The DHS should only respond to half a report, then say, "UNABLE TO DETERMINE", though there is no evidence the caller, (who logged the report), was concerned enough to step in at any specific date, while saying 'the long-drawn-out emergency', they never personally attended to, is ongoing, RIGHT NOW, and wishes to remain anonymous. a. Yes No
  56. The DHS should act against your parental rights, after they decided not to, close the case, because of the lack of evidence, and the January 10, 2005 caller was not believed by the DHS. a. Yes No
  57. The contradictions in logic should outweigh the lack of proof and DHS should act as though you are committing a felony, since my sentence has been extended for now almost a year, because I said, ''Get a SEARCH WARRANT from a real judge'', and maintain the right to privacy, not wanting to include DHS in your privileged relationships. a. Yes No
  58. A caller should remain anonymous, though purporting to have intimate knowledge regarding your state of mind, and the severity of abuse they purport, saying the younger of the children is in a state of emergency, and the older is on drugs. a. Yes No
  59. A material witness should remain anonymous and the judge should appoint public officials, probation officers, and CASA, as witnesses in lieu of first hand attestation, in open court, form a caller who claims to be an inside witness. a. Yes No
  60. DHS should require all parents, who of sound mind, to submit their medical evaluations and decisions, subject to a detailed release thereto, to a State Case Worker, as law, so the DHS do not have to pick and choose selecting who they require to submit to an evaluation. a. Yes No
  61. DHS should know immediately when a parent begins seeing a psychiatrist, be allowed to declare an emergency, if they need assistance in determining what you psychiatrist has to say regarding your medical choices, while under his care. a. Yes No
  62. DHS provides a Social Service, not to be confused as Social Duress, if they do not allow you to make your own medical choices, once you begin psychiatric treatments. a. Yes No
  63. A Child Abuse Hotline Screener should be switched, after another closed the case at screening, when DHS supervisory staff calls to provide "NEW INFORMATION", and not presenting that information to you first, as law stipulates they should do. a. Yes No
  64. If the caller at the time of the report, stipulated directly that they had direct knowledge regarding an 'ongoing', matter, and do not reported ongoing involvement, like; calling an ambulance, baby sitting, meal preparation, as including in their report: what assistance was given to the child, the report should be believed as if it were true, though DHS took no action for almost a month. a. Yes No
  65. The DHS should close a case just as they claim and emergency is ongoing, though they did not document that they recognized it before, during the assessment, and annotate after the fact. a. Yes No
  66. I should not be troubled by the tangible effect of this type of action happening to the rest of the people of this nation, if a third trial were held. a. Yes No
  67. It is always proper to try a DHS case, under an 'ADMINISTRATIVE JUDGE', and then have a jury determine if a judge made the right choice while they re-try the case after a parent refuses to do what the DHS say. a. Yes No
  68. DHS 'findings' is not to be seen by Americans as Pre-Adjudication, though judges follow their recommendations. a. Yes No
  69. The morals of the Declaration of Independence allow for a judge to have advisors who not come to court for cross examination, where there is no jury, on matters that affect you the rest of your life. a. Yes No
  70. An eighteen year old should not be given the right not to contract with an agency by a judicial 'ORDER'. a. Yes No
  71. An eleven year old who says, "Yes, but, nothing that worries me", and nothing further to the question, "Does your mother do anything weird?", have words that should be construed as a complaint even after he says, "No", to the question, "Do you want to go live with your dad?". a. Yes No
If you know what questions to say yes to, please send me a letter. All these questions are based on the actual events and are a sign of lawlessness. My government should not be both above, while acting below, the law.

2020.09.18 15:04 rusticgorilla The NINE agencies Trump is using to corrupt the election

Over the past six months, Trump has been making increasingly false, absurd, and dangerous claims - from saying the “only way” he’ll lose in November is in a rigged election to claiming his opponents illegally “spied” on his campaign.
However, not only is he making these claims, the president and his cronies are corrupting the power of government to inflate his lies to the level of truth and oppress any evidence to the contrary. With the help of loyalists atop every federal agency, Trump has perverted the government to serve his own re-election desires.
This list is nowhere near comprehensive. There are many more examples that could be given, but I tried to keep it short enough that it is still readable.

ODNI and Intelligence Community

Limit disclosure of knowledge of Russian sabotage.
The Office of the Director of National Intelligence, led by Trump loyalist John Ratcliffe, canceled future in-person briefings on election security issues to the congressional intelligence committees. Instead, the ODNI will provide written briefings only.
The change came after a classified briefing in which top counterintelligence official Bill Evanina told House members that Russia is again trying to boost President Donald Trump’s reelection and denigrate his opponent, Joe Biden. Trump was enraged after details of the briefing leaked to the public, revealing that his own administration’s intelligence officers contradict his repeated assertions that Russia is not interfering on his behalf.
Reminder: Trump fired the previous DNI, Joseph Maguire, after learning that one of Maguire’s staff members gave a 2020 election security briefing to the House Intelligence Committee. In the briefing, Maguire aide Shelby Pierson alerted committee members that Russia was interfering in the 2020 campaign in an effort to tip the election in Trump’s favor. In firing Maguire, Trump sent a warning to the entire intelligence community: Trump’s opinion and electoral prospects must be prioritized over facts.

Department of Homeland Security

Twist intelligence to support campaign and personal motives.
Election interference
Former acting Under Secretary of Homeland Security for Intelligence and Analysis Brian Murphy filed a whistleblower complaint alleging that Acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf interfered with intelligence assessments in order to benefit Trump politically.
In May 2020, Acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf told Murphy to “cease providing intelligence assessments on the threat of Russian interference in the United States, and instead start reporting on interference activities by China and Iran.” Wolf told Murphy those instructions came directly from the White House.
In July 2020, DHS chief of staff John Gountanis intervened to stop publication of an intelligence bulletin warning about a Russian disinformation plot to “denigrate” the mental health of Joe Biden. On July 8, Murphy said, he met with Wolf, who told him that the intelligence notification should be “held” because it “made the President look bad.”
Trump not only attempts to hide intelligence that contradicts the false narrative he continues to push about China actively interfering to boost Biden, according to Murphy Trump’s officials directed him to prioritize intelligence on China and Iran.
It’s disturbing enough for a president and his allies to distort intelligence assessments for political gain, but Murphy’s account suggests something more nefarious—that intelligence authorities and positions of public trust might have been used to engineer the narrative from the outset.
Campaign agitprop
Murphy’s complaint also details that Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Deputy Secretary Ken Cuccinelli ordered him to modify intelligence assessments to make the threat of white supremacy “appear less severe” and include information on violent “left-wing” groups and Antifa. The reason given was “to ensure they matched up with the public comments by President Trump on the subject of ANTIFA and ‘anarchist’ groups.”
Trump has spent months fear-mongering about imagined mobs of far-left activists coming to attack the suburbs. On Saturday, the Trump campaign sent out an “ANTIFA ALERT” text message to supporters, saying “they’ll attack your homes if Joe’s elected. Pres Trump needs you to become a Diamond Club Member.”

Customs and Border Patrol

Cause unrest in Democratic-cities to assist in fear campaign.
Border Patrol agents were among the federal forces sent to Portland to confront and arrest protestors over the summer.
Gil Kerlikowske, former commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection under President Barack Obama, said BORTAC, the unit dispatched to the city, is chiefly trained to pursue fugitives and criminals. "They're clearly the wrong group to be doing this.”
The violence they provoked was featured in Trump’s campaign ads and RNC nomination acceptance speech.
“Trump has ratcheted up political ties to border patrol to another level,” Todd Miller, the author of Empire of Borders, said. “He based his whole 2016 campaign around this, and it is now at the core of his 2020 re-election bid. These are his people.”
Most recently, the Border Patrol produced and published a dramatized video showing a Spanish-speaking attacker stabbing and killing a man in a dark alley after escaping from U.S. agents - “a clip apparently created to dramatize President Trump’s depiction of migrants as fearsome criminals.”

Justice Department

Weaponize the law to harm opponents and save himself.
Investigate Trump’s rivals
Trump and Attorney General Bill Barr are reportedly pressuring U.S. Attorney John Durham and his team to release the results of their probe before the November election. Durham was appointed by Barr to investigate the origins of the Mueller investigation and the FBI’s Russia probe. Last week, a highly respected and experienced prosecutor, Nora R. Dannehy, resigned as a senior aide to Durham due to concern over this improper political pressure.
Trump has publicly expressed impatience with the Durham investigation, saying there should be more prosecutions and disclosures of information that would damage his political rivals. Last month, Barr indicated the DOJ would not respect an informal policy against taking investigative steps 60 days before Election Day.
In a speech on Wednesday, Barr essentially rebuked the Mueller investigation and the cases it spawned: “Smart, ambitious lawyers have sought to amass glory by prosecuting prominent public figures since the Roman Republic. It is utterly unsurprising that prosecutors continue to do so today to the extent the Justice Department’s leaders will permit it. As long as I am Attorney General, we will not.”
Assist Trump’s allies
Attorney General Barr has explicitly interfered in at least two criminal cases against Trump’s allies, helping the president promote the narrative that the Obama administration (in which Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden served) acted inappropriately. In February, Barr overruled career federal prosecutors in order to recommend the former Trump campaign advisor Roger Stone receive a lesser prison sentence. The entire team of prosecutors resigned from the criminal case due to the Justice Department’s interference. Trump ultimately commuted Stone’s 40-month sentence, much less than the original recommendation of seven to nine years in prison.
Then, in May, the Justice Department filed a request to drop the criminal case against Trump's first national security adviser, Michael Flynn, despite the fact that Flynn twice - before two separate judges - admitted to lying to the FBI. In response, nearly 2,000 former DOJ employees called for Barr’s resignation, saying he had “assaulted the rule of law.”
Politically-motivated actions
Barr reportedly told prosecutors to explore aggressive charges against people arrested at recent demonstrations across the US, even suggesting bringing a rarely used sedition charge, reserved for those who have plotted a threat that posed imminent danger to government authority.
The AG asked prosecutors in the Justice Department’s civil rights division to explore whether they could bring criminal charges against Mayor Jenny Durkan of Seattle for not acting immediately to disrupt the police-free zone created by protestors over the summer. According to the Associated Press, charges were also explored against city officials in Portland, Oregon, for the continued protests in the area.
The Justice Department is targeting Democratic governors for coronavirus outbreaks in state-owned nursing homes. The four governors - PA’s Tom Wolf, MI’s Whitmer, NJ’s Murphy, and NY’s Cuomo - are frequent targets of Trump for not lifting pandemic restrictions as fast as he’d like. Republican-run states have very similar rules about nursing home admissions yet are not under DOJ investigation.
Just yesterday, Barr publicly bashed states that still have restrictions in place, saying that “stay at home orders” are “like house arrest.” Incredibly, Barr added: “Other than slavery, which was a different kind of restraint, this is the greatest intrusion on civil liberties in American history."
  • More: In April, Barr issued a memorandum directing the nation’s U.S. attorneys to be on the lookout for public health rules that might, among other things, constitute “undue interference with the national economy.”

CDC and FDA

Rush coronavirus treatments to save his election chances.
At the end of March, the FDA issued an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) to allow hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine for coronavirus COVID-19 treatment after weeks of pressure from Trump. For instance, eight days before the EUA, Trump tweeted that hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin could be "one of the biggest game changers in the history of medicine" and should "be put in use immediately."
Ultimately, the FDA revoked its EUA in June after more evidence revealed hydroxychloroquine can cause “serious cardiac adverse events.”
Experts say the FDA again caved to political pressure when it approved an expanded use of convalescent plasma to treat covid patients, the night before the Republican National Convention. Despite concerns over plasma’s effectiveness, Trump called Dr. Francis S. Collins, the director of the N.I.H., to tell him: “Get it done by Friday.” When it wasn’t, Trump took to Twitter to accuse those at the FDA of being part of the “deep state” withholding an approval “to delay the answer until after November 3.” The next day, the FDA announced its approval.
Finally, and most obviously, Trump has pressured the FDA to approve of a coronavirus vaccine before the November election. Experts across the board have said there is no way our government and existing infrastructure will be ready to distribute, administer, and track doses by November.
Trump, Sept. 2: "[It's] going to be done in a very short period of time -- could even have it during the month of October… We’re going to have a vaccine very soon, maybe even before a very special date. You know what date I’m talking about” (clip 1 and clip 2.
Just yesterday, Trump contradicted CDC chief Robert Redfield’s timetable for the vaccine, saying the doctor was “confused” in his congressional testimony.
"If you're asking me when is it going to be generally available to the American public, so we can begin to take advantage of vaccine to get back to our regular life, I think we're probably looking at third, late second quarter, third quarter 2021," Redfield told a Senate appropriations subcommittee.
"I think he made a mistake when he said that. It's just incorrect information," Trump said about Redfield's vaccine timeline. Following Trump’s repudiation, a CDC spokesman walked back Redfield’s statements to be in line with the president’s. "He was not referring to the time period when Covid-19 vaccine doses would be made available to all Americans," the spokesman said.

Department of Health and Human Services

Convince the public that the pandemic is gone.
DHS is bidding out a more than $250 million contract to a communications firm as it seeks to “defeat despair and inspire hope” about the coronavirus pandemic. Among the goals of the contract: “sharing best practices for businesses to operate in the new normal and instill confidence to return to work and restart the economy.” In other words: exactly what Trump has tried to project onto the nation despite his failure to effectively contain the spread of the coronavirus.
As the House Oversight Committee has expressed, “rather than focus on planning and executing a national strategy to contain the coronavirus, the Trump Administration is using a quarter of a billion dollars in taxpayer money to fund what appears to be a political propaganda campaign just two months before a presidential election.”
Remember, the pandemic crisis still gripping America is Trump’s own creation. Olivia Troye, Pence’s top aide on the White House coronavirus task force, went public yesterday with her firsthand experiences. She relays that throughout the pandemic, Trump was consumed by himself and his prospects in November. “For him, it was all about the election,” Troye said.
Instead of trying to help Americans and slow the spread, Trump is spending 250 million taxpayer dollars to try to convince us not to believe our own eyes and ears.

US Postal Service

Discredit vote-by-mail and suppress the vote.
President Trump on Thursday continued his months long campaign against mail-in voting this November by tweeting that “MAYHEM” will occur in states that send ballots to all registered voters. In another tweet, Trump falsely asserted that “the Nov 3rd Election result may NEVER BE ACCURATELY DETERMINED” due to nine states running universal mail-in voting.
By casting doubt on mail ballots and the election results, Trump is trying to accomplish two things: (1) persuade voters not to participate in the election, and (2) claim victory prematurely, or even after a decisive loss.
To this end, Postmaster DeJoy - a big donor to Trump’s campaign - has sent confusing misinformation to voters in these states that automatically send registered voters ballots by mail.
DeJoy has also implemented changes at USPS that significantly slowed the delivery of mail, making it harder for people to vote by mail with confidence and, likely, scaring some people away from voting at all in the middle of the pandemic. Trump is betting on these changes having a bigger impact on Democrats than Republicans, especially considering the fact that he has spent nearly the entire year downplaying the threat of the coronavirus to his base.
  • Note: Barr is also cranking out false public statements to discredit vote-by-mail, whether it’s falsely claiming it’s vulnerable to a massive foreign-engineered conspiracy or blatantly misrepresenting actual domestic cases of fraud.

National Park Service

Assist in taxpayer funded staging of campaign events.
Yes, even the National Park Service has been corrupted by Trump, via former oil industry lobbyist and Secretary of the Interior David Bernhardt. Most recently, the NPS produced what appears to be a campaign ad, with no other purpose than promoting Trump. In fact, the words “PRESIDENT TRUMP” in all caps are the first words to appear on screen. The video likely breaks the law:
The federal Anti-Deficiency Act prohibits the use of federal funds for purposes other than those Congress has authorized… if Congress has not authorized the Interior Department to use our money to create campaign ads (and it hasn’t), then the Interior Department cannot legally create campaign ads. In addition to this general prohibition against using funds for unauthorized purposes, there is an express prohibition against propaganda.
Additionally the NPS allowed Trump to take over Mount Rushmore National Memorial for an air and fireworks show ostensibly to celebrate Independence day. In reality, Trump used the event to rail against Democrats, promote his statute-protecting executive order, and warn of a "left-wing cultural revolution." Put differently, it was a campaign event in the middle of a national park.
In June, U.S. Park Police (officers of the NPS) took part in forcibly removing peaceful protestors with tear gas and rubber bullets from the area in and around Lafayette Park, a national historic landmark and public place, for the president's photo-op with a bible. And in 2019, the Park Service used $2.5 million in fees paid by national park visitors to fund President Trump's "Salute to America" celebration in the National Mall.

The last game of President Trump: Breaking the coup attempt of the Democratic Party and the enemy of the country
The closer you get to the election day (November 3), you can feel the heat from all sides surrounded the ballot box, from the Democratic Party's push to vote by mail to the application of the military to the election. or not? It can be said that President Trump is facing a lot of pitfalls of the righteous "enemy" in the heart of the country.
But as a "warrior" of difficult space, it can be said that the current decisions and statements of President Trump have pushed "the opponent" into the situation ... do not know where to go. 2020: The Democratic Party's "n" coup attempt
In February 2020, after many failed "coups" since Trump entered the White House (January 2017), Democrats and other underground State forces plotted to "oust" President Trump. out of the White House with a "farce" or "farce", and it ultimately failed miserably.
When the "tricks" are applied based on both "subjective and objective" factors such as the Wuhan virus, shutting down the economy, destroying riot, abolishing the police ... counterproductive, more precise. is a huge failure again, now the Democratic "rulers" are openly talking about staging a "coup".
Starting with statements from the US Department of Defense to quietly guide public opinion that the military will not obey the orders of the President. All of the above statements are from former generals - most of them are those who served under former President Barack Obama, and helped "spread" by Big Media to the American public. In July 2018, CNN once "revealed" that a series of generals in the Trump administration were disobeying his requests. And CNN, New York Times ... try to "illustrate" so that the American people believe that the President of the United States cannot afford to become the most powerful man in the world. (first)
CNN opened up, Defense Secretary James Mattis - then among those "disobedient" top officials - is said to have made disparaging comments on President Trump on matters related to Syria and North Korea, with the comments "Mr. Trump understands these issues at the level of an elementary school student".
US Joint Chiefs of Staff Vice Chairman John Hyten, who is responsible for America's top nuclear command, said he opposes President Trump's order on a nuclear strike if that is " illegal". As for CNBC, incumbent Defense Secretary Mark Esper opposes the introduction of the Resurrection Act - allowing President Trump to deploy US troops in active service - in response to civil unrest caused by Antifa, Black Lives Matter caused in major cities across the US in May 2020. (2) As the riots intensified by domestic terrorist groups, with the "help" of the Democratic governors run earlier in June, Defense Secretary Mark Esper declared publicly announced in the media that the President should not invoke the Resurrection Act.
The left-wing media massively released this information, simultaneously interpreting and dissecting the Secretary of Defense's message: “Mr. President, don't tell us to do it, because we won't, And he knows what will happen after that.
All these "tricks" of the left-wing media have "breathed relay" for candidate Joe Biden to confidently assert to Fox News that the military will "escort [Trump] from the White House with an official dispatch." great ”if the president refuses to leave office. And yet, former Vice President Al Gore (under the Bill Clinton administration) also publicly agreed with this view of Joe Biden. (3)
You may think that this is just a "joking" comment of a "patient" with dementia, and of a "hideout" who always offers "renaissance" campaign policies to America. from inside the basement of the house he is in.
But Democrats are not accidentally "innocent" as you think. They have a methodical strategy to "brainwash" the American people step by step before "coup", even for Mr. Joe Biden "doze" to say innocuous statements as above. Democrats are not accidentally "innocent" as you think. They have a methodical strategy to "brainwash" the American people step by step before "coup". (Getty)
It is no coincidence that the Washington Post recently (September 3) published an article titled: "What's the worst that could happen ..." The article publicly outlined a scenario, in which "Trump won," the Democrats desperate and vice versa. (4)
They purposely leaked a summer story about a meeting of about 100 Democrats who were former "anti-Trump" Republicans and other underground powers. (following the devilish trend of billionaire George Soros) together "play the lottery" - outlined different options and results in the 2020 election.
The end result is an absolute victory of the current President Trump. However, Bill Clinton's former White House Chief of Staff John Podesta (who plays Joe Biden) refused to give in, pressuring states that Trump had won the Democratic nomination for the main vote. formula of the Electoral College, and is confident that the military will take care of the rest. (5) This
deliberately "leaked" report shows that, if there is "dispute" from the post-election tally, then "technocratic solutions, courts and dependence on elites comply by standards is not the answer ”. Which it promises, what will happen after the November elections will be "a street fight, not a war of riot.
The underground powers and Democrats have outlined a bold plan to topple President Trump if he is re-elected. (Getty)
That means Big Media has "confirmed" to the American public that the possibility of post-election rioting (if President Trump is re-elected) will occur. Add two other baselines that can't be ignored.
The first data is that on August 11, Representatives Elissa Slotkin (Michigan) and Mikie Sherrill (New Jersey) wrote an open letter to General Mark Milley, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. In the letter, two Democrats urged General Mark Milley to deploy the 82nd Airborne Division to "escort" President Trump out of the Oval Office at 12:01 p.m. on January 20, 2021 for Joe Biden to "continue. The White House. (6)
The letter is the most obvious answer to the Democratic conspiracy right after candidate Joe Biden offered his "idea": If President Trump loses in the 2020 election (and if he refuses to give in ), then the Democrats may have to "ask" the military to escort him out of the White House.
The second data is that just about a month later, Hillary Clinton publicly declared that Joe Biden should not give in to the election "under any circumstances". (7) This does not sound like the "rhetoric" of a great politician, of a major political party.
All the above facts show that the Democrats are once again planning to "coup" President Donald Trump even if he wins over Joe Biden in the 2020 election.
Why Big Media and the Citizen Party Owner openly conspired "coup"?
The answer is simple, because the Deep State forces know that, for this coup "conspiracy" to succeed, it must not seem like a conspiracy. And at all times, wherever they are, they need to instill in the minds of the American people and the world public that, illegally removing President Trump from his term is partly due to the "fault" of yourself: Fascist dictator, entrenched power etc and so forth
They "brainwash" the American people not to mind Joe Biden's "extravagant" statement, that President Trump will refuse to leave the White House when he believed he had won legally. But what they want to emphasize through the "firm" statement of Hillary Clinton that: Joe Biden should not lose under any circumstances.
The focus of the Democratic Party's coup "conspiracy" is by all means to exaggerate the risk of pandemic Wuhan virus, with the help of CDC, Big Tech, Big Media, Big Pharma to stop the people. The United States voted directly, which in turn led to voting by mail. This is a form to create conditions for Democrats to cheat votes and "buy time" to count votes.
The Deep State powers know that in order for this coup "plot" to succeed, it must not act like a conspiracy.
In early September, the Hawkfish analysis firm (backed Joe Biden) announced that there was a chance that President Trump would win a landslide match on election night (November 3), but could lose. after the Democrats tally their mail ballots.
Hawkfish's director, Josh Mendelsohn, said a possible scenario when President Trump holds a 408-130 electoral ballot on election night, but has only 15% of the vote. by mail is checked. But after all the votes were counted, the company predicted Joe Biden "eventually won a big, 334-204 win."
Mr. Mendelsohn said: “When every legitimate vote is checked and we reach the last day, which is the day after Election Day, reality shows what happened on the exact election night. as such. Looks like Donald Trump took the lead, and he basically won't win when every vote counts. "
Meanwhile, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg also said that Americans have to get used to thinking that the election results may take "weeks" to be confirmed after the vote (November 3), and "status "Civil unrest is possible."
Twitter announced that they will delete any tweet declaring victory before the election results are confirmed. Meaning Twitter indirectly confirmed, the platform would prevent President Trump's supporters from challenging the legitimacy of any delay in announcing winners.
The worst case scenario will result in some states having ambiguous votes. Then a fierce dispute will happen to the point where no one can accurately declare the winner. Of course, then a whole system of Underground State behind "back", will help Democrats declare Joe Biden final victory.
America "runs out" if Joe Biden and Democrats win.
As President Trump once warned, if Joe Biden wins, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) will take over America. At the same time, many observers also found that America, under the leadership of Joe Biden, would follow a socialist model.
This should come as no surprise, given that Joe Biden has a close "history", with the CCP leaders, openly downplaying the threat from China as well as his "demographic" campaigning policies. always attaching special importance to high taxes, supporting abortion, similar to the socialist democratic model.
The dangerous thing is, if Joe Biden and the Democrats somehow "take over" the White House in this 2020 election, they will change the US Constitution and the Bill of Rights, by canceling the Second Amendment. 2 (allowing Americans the right to own guns), opening up the border so that millions of illegal immigrants enter the United States, causing job "bleeding" and chaos.
At the same time, Democrats will keep all political dissidents - true Americans - silent. Under the mighty power of the Underground State, opposition Americans, patriotic Americans, and traditional rightists will be tightly censored.
Believers, Christians will be intimidated, beaten, and even executed by domestic terrorist groups such as Antifa, Black Lives Matter, and even executed, whose law (of the Democratic Party) will protect them in a favorable way. ethnic minorities. All Christian speeches will be "criminalized", and the Bible will be outlawed.
America is embraced by Marxist left-wing ideology. The riots over the past three months in the United States have demonstrated an ever darker outlook after the election, and show that the extreme left is a frantic, authoritarian, anti-American "sect."
The radical left "nurtured" and activated by the mainstream media, launched a violent communist revolution against America's values of freedom and democracy.
Big Media, Big Tech has demonstrated dangerous lawlessness by censoring all speeches online, protesting the radical liberal's psychotic delusions. The ultimate purpose of this underworld is: Full power to rule, eliminate police and censor people with opposing views.
In the future, America is no longer a shore of Freedom, but becomes a country like the country the CCP is running: Disrespecting the law and upholding the "law of the forest". Every American election from now on will be easily manipulated, stolen, cheated, or altered with violence by leftists who hate America, and despise all Americans who love. True water.
President Trump - lonely warrior: "Quick quenching" violence
Of course, all the above actions are prevented by President Donald Trump.
The Politico newspaper reported that on September 10, President Trump threatened to "quell ... very quickly" the riots on election night (November 3), if the Democrats were dissatisfied. Street after his victory. (8)
The remarks were made in an interview with Fox News host Jeanine Pirro, in which President Trump was asked how he would react to riots if he was declared the winner. on November 3. (9)
We will take them down very quickly if they do. We have the right to do that. We have the power to do it, if we want to… "(Getty)
"We will take them down very quickly if they do," replied the President. We have the right to do that. We have the power to do it, if we want to ... Look, it's called rebellion. We just send, and we do it, very easily. I mean, it's very easy. I don't want to do it because there is no reason, but if we have to do so, we will do it and solve the problem within minutes ”.
President Trump appears to be referring to the National Emergency Act - a law dating back to 1807 - that allows the President to deploy troops in the country for enforcement in certain emergencies. In other words, President Trump is declaring that he will deploy his army to end the rebellions.
There have been many analyzes and comments after this statement of President Trump. One of them is that President Trump will introduce the Resurrection Act shortly after the election. This allows the President to invoke the executive powers of the Fourteenth Amendment, in which paragraph 3 states:
“Anyone who is a member of Congress, or an official of the United States, or a member of a state legislature, or an administrative or judicial official of any state has made a declaration. o swear to support the Constitution of the United States but participate in revolts or rebellions against the Constitution or assist or lie in enemies, cannot be a senator or a deputy in Congress, or a representative voters to elect the President and Vice President, or in charge of any civil or military agency of the United States or of a certain state. But Congress can with 2/3 votes of two-thirds of the members of each House to reject the above prohibition. (From vi.wikisource) (10)
The Fourteenth Amendment was approved in 1868, shortly after the Civil War. President Trump could use this Amendment to order the arrest of a series of traitors, while stripping Electoral College votes from states participating in an overt revolt against the United Nations. USA.
That means President Trump has the power to remove the powers of governors, mayors, judges, lawmakers or military leaders who have granted "aid or commissar" to the anti-insurgent / rebellion. back to the United States.
That also means Democrats Gavin Newsom (California), Kate Brown (Oregon), Jay Inslee (Washington) and Andrew Cuomo (New York), and many left-wing mayors like Ted Wheeler (Portland), Lori Lightfoot (Chicago) and Bill de Blasio of (New York City) will be stripped of power.
President Trump will likely declare first that an illegal nationwide rebellion is in progress, and then deploy troops to quell the riots and restore the rule of law.
Extreme violence, and anarchy in Democratic-run states like this one, and likely to get even more intense shortly after the election, will give President Trump a rationale. it was justifiable for him to declare sending troops to these rebellious states.
u The 14th Judgment will allow President Trump to deprive mayors, governors, and MPs of the Democratic Party if riots do break out. (Getty)
This was not an act of "martial law" because President Trump remained at the helm of the country, and America was not run by a military general. Rather, the military is being deployed as a tool of the President to crack down on illegal rebellions.
Radical leftists are frantically burning, destroying, dismantling everything of America, from business to historic sites, harassing electoral sites, and deconstructing the foundation. the republic to replace the totalitarian socialist regime - will be abolished.
Of course, once the riots were abolished, this military deployment would cease, and the United States returned to a civil society. However, Underground State forces like Big Media and Big Tech will not sit and sit still once President Trump starts the Resurrection Act.
This "insane" faction will accuse President Trump of being a "military dictator" as they have long been attributed to him.At the same time, the Underground State forces will call on leftists to protest and rise. teach in the way that billionaire George Soros's Open Society Fund typically funds "color revolutions" that overthrow governments around the world.
His Open Society Foundation and other coalition organizations are the sponsors, supporters of the Democratic Party and radical liberal leftists, promoting racial wars, riots. , violence and revolution against America.
George Soros - the man behind many revolutions, riots overthrew the incumbent government worldwide, and profited to get rich through endless wars. (Getty)
George Eliason, investigative reporters of Americans now live in Ukraine, has connected the signs related to administration before Barack Obama with a wicked conspiracy to disturb and disrupt civil society America. This conspiracy is not only aimed at "overthrowing" President Trump from the White House, but also wants to open up a form of government in the line of atheistic communist socialism.
George Eliason released a report alleging that foreign terrorists were brought into the United States by conspiracy by former President Obama and CIA Director John Brennan. This shocking report indicates that the Obama administration "imported" foreign terrorists into the US in preparation for the Antifa / Black Lives Matter uprising, which caused chaos in US cities. (11)
So in recent months, domestic terrorists have been so strong that they shot and killed those who support President Trump, bombed gas bombs and destroyed federal government buildings. and attack the police. This is not difficult to predict that it will inevitably happen - to an even more intense extent - if President Trump is re-elected.
President Trump fully realized that a war against America had begun, and he decided to act decisively to protect America by "manipulating" the enemy when he declared that he would use legal military force and all executive powers of a commander in chief of the United States of America.
President Trump knew what was about to happen, and he molded the enemy by threatening to use the military to completely suppress uprising. (Getty)
President Trump's high-handed move
On August 23, just a day before the Republican National Congress began, President Trump held a major event welcoming the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for allowing emergency use. patient's plasma level COVID-19 was healthy during treatment. A few hours later, it was reported that the Trump administration was considering speeding up the vaccine test to get it and roll it out before the November election.
After voicing out that Democrats could fake votes if they passed the election. Letter, President Trump continued to shock with a statement related to vaccines: "The underground State elements at the FDA are trying to prevent companies from testing vaccines. They are looking to delay vaccines until after election day. 3-11 ", Mr. Trump wrote on Twitter August 22.
According to Bloomberg, the Trump administration is working to dramatically cut the time it takes to develop the coronavirus vaccine, with the goal of giving it enough doses for most Americans by the end of the year. Known as "Warp Speed", the campaign will bring together private pharmaceutical companies, government agencies and the military to try to cut the vaccine development time to eight months. (12)
In a matter of weeks In the past, the Trump administration has actively promoted the supply of vaccines on November 1 across the United States. (13) So why choose November 1 to provide vaccines? The answer is: November 1 is important because it is only two days away from the election (November 3). The Warp Speed campaign on the surface involved vaccines, but in reality President Trump was not really "on the hook" with Big Pharma - home to the notorious vaccine manufacturing corporations. And President Trump has relied on this campaign to preserve national security by sending troops in every major city in the United States in an attempt to restore the rule of law, arrest leftist terrorists and traitors.
On March 27, 2020, President Trump issued an executive order that allowed the Pentagon to mobilize US veterans and members of the reserve force, and the National Guard returned to work. Permanent reinforcement for soldiers participating in the Army's COVID-19 pandemic campaign. (14)
The Individual Ready Reserve includes veterans, and members of the Mobilization Reserve, who are considered out of the military and rarely re-convened. These reserves will be deployed as part of the national defense against the Antifa terrorist groups, the Black Lives Matter. All of this could explain why President Trump pushed for the supply of vaccines on November 1, in which the military was sent to the country to "distribute" the vaccine.
This appears to be an extremely daring plan, "based on" the scheming brains of extremist left-wing Democracy - as a way of distributing troops across the country on election day, to prepare for application of the Resurrection Act immediately following elections.
Simply put, President Trump is a President of Law and Order.
Along with the continuous wave of American Police Associations voicing support for President Donald Trump, it can be said that the Democrats are on the same path. In other words, the Democrats were sticking him on his back, and to put it more literally, they were dancing the "music" exactly as the "talented composer": Donald Trump.

2020.09.17 21:00 portlane William Gates (Nov. 30, 1925 - Sept. 14, 2020)

William Henry Gates II
Nov. 30, 1925 - Sept. 14, 2020
The Gates family mourns the passing of William H. Gates II, known to many as Bill Sr., who died peacefully at his beach home on Hood Canal Sept. 14, 2020 of Alzheimer's disease. In his 94 years, Bill created a towering legacy as a lawyer, philanthropist, and activist. To his family, he was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather who was an example of what it means to be a model citizen and a profoundly decent man. To many in the community, he was an inspiring role model, trusted advisor, and loyal friend. His sincerity, humor, approachability, and thoughtfulness won him legions of admirers and made him highly effective in his work and his civic and philanthropic endeavors.
Bill was born Nov. 30, 1925 and grew up in the Navy town of Bremerton. His father owned a furniture store and neither of his parents went to high school. Bill went to Bremerton High School and was active in Boy Scouts, where his troop spent three summers building a log cabin from the ground up, and he learned his first lesson about the power of people working toward a common goal.
He completed one year at the University of Washington before reporting for duty in the U.S. Army. He completed officer candidate school and was en route to Japan when it surrendered. He spent a year in war-torn Tokyo, which provided him with one of his first opportunities to consider our shared humanity and its ability to unite people regardless of their backgrounds.
Gates returned to the U.S. to earn an undergraduate degree in 1949 and a law degree the next year. During that time, he gained a lifelong passion for the Husky Nation and met his first wife, Mary Maxwell. Bill and Mary raised two daughters and a son and developed a shared sense of civic duty. Volunteering and philanthropy were nightly topics of conversation around the Gates family dinner table.
Bill and Mary found great joy in nurturing friendships. They were prolific entertainers, and guests could count on meaningful conversation and friendly competition. They and eight other families spent more than 10 summers on Hood Canal at Cheerio resort, where Bill was fondly known as "the mayor." For several years, they held a holiday skating party where Bill, at 6'7", could be found wearing a Santa suit on roller skates. Their bridge club met for nearly 60 years.
Bill began his legal career working in private practice and serving part-time as City Attorney for Bremerton. He joined a Seattle law firm, and after 12 years, formed a new firm with two partners. As managing partner, Gates helped grow the firm and today it is known as K&L Gates, one of the world's largest law firms. His firm was involved early in the region's tech industry, and that involvement expanded over time. Gates retired from the firm, then known as Preston Gates & Ellis, in 1998 after 48 years in practice.
Bill believed in the power of the law to help people and make change for the better. His colleagues admired his integrity, trusted his intelligence, and sought his advice. He engaged in the law's professional associations, including serving as president of the local and state bar associations, holding leadership positions with the American Bar Association, participating in several court commissions, and other posts. Through these associations, he helped create law school scholarships for people of color and an approach to delivering legal services to the poor.
In addition to being one of Seattle's most respected lawyers, Bill became one of the city's most revered civic leaders. He served as an engaged trustee of numerous organizations, including the Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce, the King County Chamber of Commerce, Planned Parenthood, and United Way of King County. He founded the Technology Alliance and helped boost technology employment in Washington. He chaired the Seattle Public Schools Levy and was a visible advocate for progressive taxation, including initiating a state income tax on the very wealthy, and maintaining an estate tax—reflections of his deep commitment to social and economic equity.
In Showing Up for Life, Bill wrote that "one way to sum up a lifetime quickly is to think of the right words to put on your tombstone." He thought his should read: "He Married Well." Despite the intense sorrow of losing Mary to cancer in 1994, he never took for granted how lucky he was to have nearly five decades with her. And then, after Mary passed, he was astonished to find that he could love fully again, when he met and married Mimi Gardner in 1996. Bill and Mimi spent more than 24 years traveling the world, learning, laughing, enjoying life, and simply being together. Mimi and Bill spent his final months at Hood Canal where they could enjoy beautiful views and time outside.
Bill also had a profound impact on the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the people the foundation serves. He, more than anyone else, shaped the values of the foundation. He started the foundation's work in global health, created the Gates Cambridge Scholars Trust (2000), and guided the foundation's major investments in human services, education, and culture in the Pacific Northwest. He was quick to tear up when he saw suffering in the world and never let anyone forget the human beings behind the foundation's strategies. He saw the best in everyone, made everyone feel special, and upheld the foundation motto "All Lives Have Equal Value" in every way possible.
During his lifetime, Bill received innumerable awards including YMCA's A.K. Guy Award, the Seattle King County REALTORS First Citizen Award, the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award, and the American Bar Association Medal. The University of Washington selected him UW's Alumnus Summa Laude Dignatus in recognition of his service to and insatiable love for the University. He served as UW Regent for 15 years and directed Campaign UW, which raised $2.7 billion through 293,000 donors. A UW Regent resolution saluted Bill as "patriarch of the first family of the University." Even in the later stages of Alzheimer's, Bill could sing the lyrics to "Bow Down to Washington."
In his characteristically humble way, Bill never saw his actions as anything special—simply the right thing to do—though the community is filled with people and organizations who were changed for the better because of his involvement.
The family would like to thank the tremendously loving and caring people, affectionately named "Team Bill," who cared for him in the last years of his life. The quality of his life was greatly enhanced by their presence and consistent provision of hot (very hot) coffee, chocolate brownies, and bowl after bowl of chocolate ice cream.
In addition to Mimi, Bill is survived by his children, Kristianne "Kristi" Blake, William "Bill" H. Gates III and Elizabeth "Libby" MacPhee; their spouses, John Blake, Melinda French Gates, and Nicholas MacPhee; and his grandchildren, Kerry and Sully Blake, Jennifer, Rory and Phoebe Gates, and Emmy, Steve and Mary Armintrout. The family will carry on the traditions that have left a lasting imprint, including matching pajamas at Christmas, time on Hood Canal, and competition and games. His grandchildren will cherish memories of their individual "10-year-old trips" with Poppy and Mimi.
His son, Bill Gates III, once wrote: "The next time someone asks you if you're the real Bill Gates, tell them you're all the things the other one strives to be."
Because of COVID-19 restrictions, the Gates family will hold a memorial service at a later date. To honor Bill's lifetime of service and generosity, donations may be made to Landesa Rural Development Institute, University of Washington – Achievement Scholars Endowed Fund, the YWCA Seattle-King-Snohomish, or to a charity of your choice.

2020.09.17 20:50 flyinmacaronimonster Absentee and In-Person Voting in Wausau

Hey people of Wausau!
Election Season officially begins for you as absentee ballots start going out to all registered voters that have requested a ballot, starting today.
Before I go any further, if there is one key piece of advice for you if you are voting absentee, it's that you DO NOT MAIL BACK YOUR BALLOT, and instead drop it off. There is a genuinely good reason for this, and I will explain further down below.
If you have not registered to vote yet, please do so right now. You can do so using this link:
https://myvote.wi.gov/en-US/VoterRegistration
Wednesday, October 14 is the deadline to register to vote online and by mail. You can also register to vote in-person at your municipal clerk's office during business hours up until 5:00pm or end of business on Friday, October 30. For City of Wausau it will be between 8am and 4:30pm MON-FRI at the City Clerk's office at City Hall @ 407 Grant St in downtown Wausau. If you live outside of the City of Wausau in Marathon County, contact your municipal clerk's office for hours, or check the link below from the Wausau Daily Herald:
https://www.ci.wausau.wi.us/Services/Elections.aspx
https://www.wausaudailyherald.com/story/news/local/2020/09/15/wausau-elections-absentee-ballot-drop-off-locations/5752781002/ [WAUSAU CITY & MARATHON COUNTY BALLOT DROP-BOX LOCATIONS/EARLY VOTING (INCOMPLETE LIST; IF YOUR MUNICIPALITY IS NOT LISTED CONTACT YOUR MUNICIPAL CLERK FOR MORE DETAILS)]
Wisconsin is also one of a few states that also allows for same-day voter registration on Election Day, so, if you have forgotten to register to vote by Friday, October 30, you can still register to vote at your polling place on Election Day, and then subsequently vote in-person.
https://myvote.wi.gov/en-us/VoterDeadlines
IF YOU ARE CONCERNED ABOUT MACHINE HACKING, KEEP IN MIND THAT WISCONSIN DOES NOT USE VOTING MACHINES IN THEIR ELECTIONS AS OF 2020, EXCEPT FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES, AND ALSO KEEP IN MIND THAT THESE MACHINES WILL HAVE A PAPER TRAIL. In Marathon County, ballot marking devices (a bit different than a voting "machine") will be used by people with disabilities, but for the majority of voters (i.e. ones without a disability), hand-marked paper ballots will be used.
https://verifiedvoting.org/verifie#mode/navigate/map/ppEquip/mapType/normal/yea2020/state/55/county/73
If you are voting in-person or are a first-time absentee voter, or, if you are requesting an absentee ballot and have updated your name or address, you will need to provide a photo ID with your absentee ballot request. The reason why you need to show ID with an absentee ballot request if you have had a name or address change is because you essentially need to re-register, and every time you register or re-register to vote, you will need to provide a photo ID with your absentee ballot request.
In terms of Photo ID in general, Wisconsin has a very strict photo ID law. Most photo IDs (like a driver's license) need to be up to date as of November 6, 2018. If you need to update your driver's license or other photo ID, please do so now or as soon as possible. Some photo IDs must be unexpired, but most do not need to be.
Here's a site that explains the types of voter ID that are acceptable:
https://bringit.wi.gov/do-i-have-right-photo-id
If you have registered to vote and have not requested an absentee ballot, request an absentee ballot if you would like. Again, remember: if you have never requested an absentee ballot in Wisconsin, or, if you have updated your name or address, you will need a photo ID to accompany your absentee ballot request.

https://elections.wi.gov/sites/default/files/gab_forms/4/el_121_application_for_absentee_ballot_2018_06_f_21413.pdf
https://myvote.wi.gov/en-US/RequestAnAbsenteeBallot
IF YOU ARE VOTING IN-PERSON INSTEAD OF ABSENTEE-BY-MAIL, SKIP TO THE IF YOU ARE VOTING IN PERSON SECTION BELOW
Once you have requested and have received your absentee ballot, READ THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY, fill out your ballot, and then MAKE SURE TO SIGN YOUR NAME IN THE CORRECT PLACE. As well, YOU WILL NEED 1 SIGNATURE WITNESS to sign the envelope. A witness can be anybody over 18 who is not running for public office.
If you are worried about your ballot being rejected due to a mismatched signature, do not worry as they will not reject it outright without letting you know, and without giving you a chance to fix it, HOWEVER this process needs to be done before polls close (8:00pm CT) on Election Day. Because of this, please make sure to avoid dropping off your ballot on Election Day if possible, and instead drop it off earlier, and preferably as early as possible.
https://elections.wi.gov/node/6797
Once you have done all that DO NOT MAIL BACK YOUR BALLOT. The real reason why is because Wisconsin makes it incredibly easy to return your absentee ballot. Wisconsin, like Michigan, administers their elections New England-style. In other words, each municipality is basically in charge of administering the election.
So, your MUNICIPAL (NOT county) clerk will be the ones sending out ballots, and your MUNICIPAL (NOT county) clerk's office will be the ones that your ballot will ultimately need to be returned to. This makes it easier to drop off your ballot, as you will not need to go far to drop it off.
When sending back your ballot, it is important to note that you need to drop it off in the MUNICIPALITY that you are voting in, NOT in the county. For example, if you live in the City of Wausau, you will need to drop it off within the city limits of Wausau, and not anywhere else in Marathon County.
In terms of dropping off your absentee ballot, there are 4 ways to do so:
1) Drop it off at a drop-box in your municipality
I have been doing research on the extent to which ballot drop-boxes exist in Wisconsin. I have found that, in nearly all cities, villages, and towns there is at least 1 drop-box in any given municipality. In the City of Wausau, there will be 1 drop-box outside of City Hall at 407 Grant St. If you live outside of Wausau city limits, drop boxes will likely be available in almost all municipalities, although it is also possible that you may need to arrange a drop-off with your municipal clerk if you live in a smaller and more rural township, though, again, it varies by municipality. Check out the link from the Wausau Daily Herald Below or contact your municipal clerk for more details.
2) Hand-deliver it in-person to your municipal clerk's office.
The City Clerk's office in Wausau will be open from 8am-4:30pm MON-FRI at City Hall, through to Election Day for ballot drop off. Hours will likely be extended on Election Day. This is still another option for you to drop off your ballot, however, it is more recommended that you drop off your ballot off at the one of the two drop-box at City Hall. If you live outside of the City of Wausau, contact your municipal clerk's office for hours or check out the list below. Please be safe when returning it in-person to your municipal clerk's office.
3) Return to a polling site during the Early Voting period.
Early Voting in the City of Wausau is available every day from Tuesday, October 20 through to Friday, October 30, except for Sunday, October 25. You can drop off your ballot at the early voting site. Drive thru voting will be available on Friday, October 23 between 3pm-7pm and on Saturday, October 24 between 8am-3pm. For early voting outside of the city of Wausau in Marathon County, contact your municipal clerk's office for more details.
4) Return to a polling site on Election Day.
This is also an option for dropping off your ballot, however it is more recommended that you drop it off earlier. Still, it is an option if need be.
https://elections.wi.gov/node/6798
https://www.ci.wausau.wi.us/Services/Elections.aspx
https://www.wausaudailyherald.com/story/news/local/2020/09/15/wausau-elections-absentee-ballot-drop-off-locations/5752781002/ [WAUSAU CITY & MARATHON COUNTY BALLOT DROP-BOX LOCATIONS/EARLY VOTING (INCOMPLETE LIST; IF YOUR MUNICIPALITY IS NOT LISTED CONTACT YOUR MUNICIPAL CLERK FOR MORE DETAILS)]
https://www.wsaw.com/2020/09/16/wausau-safe-elections-task-force-confirms-drive-thru-voting-option/
Generally speaking, you, and only you, should drop off your own ballot, however, if you cannot drop it off yourself, you can have somebody else that you trust drop it off for you. PLEASE DO NOT GIVE YOUR BALLOT TO ANYBODY WHO YOU DO NOT FULLY TRUST.
Ballots need to be returned by 8:00pm CT on Election Day.
For several reasons, including the fact that ballot drop-off is local, the fact that there is a drop-box or drop-off point in virtually every municipality, and also because there there are so many options for dropping off your ballot, Wisconsin is, in my opinion, one of the very easiest states to drop off your ballot, and is even up there with Oregon and Washington in terms of ease of dropping it off.
IF YOU ARE VOTING IN PERSON
If you want to vote in-person, it is recommended that you vote as early as possible.
You may also vote in-person on Election Day, though it is recommended that you vote early if you are voting in person. Again, make sure you have your valid photo ID.

https://www.wsaw.com/2020/09/16/wausau-safe-elections-task-force-confirms-drive-thru-voting-option/
Stay safe, vote, and please remember to drop off your absentee ballots and not mail it back unless completely and utterly necessary.

2020.09.15 15:23 arnoldez [WTS] Men's/Women's, Keen, Ibex, REI, Topo Designs, Tom Bihn, Thermarest, Sawyer, Polarmax, lots of made in USA

UPDATED: Many items have sold, so I've moved them to the bottom for easier navigation.
Hey there, I'm pretty new around here so bear with me. PayPal Goods/Services only. All prices include shipping to CONUS unless otherwise noted. For sizing reference, I am 6’2” and about 180 pounds. The women's stuff belonged to my wife, who is 5'0".
Verification and Product Photos
Please note: if you intend to buy multiple pieces, I will happily reduce the cost based on shipping. Just let me know what you’re looking at and your shipping zip code, and I’ll deduct accordingly.

Clothing

[1 SOLD, 1 AVAILABLE] **Fire Force #8740 Military Style Ripstop Nylon Poncho, Coyote Brown, 55” x 90” – $15 each (**2x available 1x available)
• 100% Ripstop Nylon w/ Brass Grommets • Made in USA
These ponchos are pretty tough, and they are still NEW in packaging. Bought these for emergency use, but the emergency never came. I just don’t want them anymore. They include grommets to allow dual-use as a rain fly. I don’t think they’re designed to go over a backpack, but I haven’t tested them.
Condition notes: None, these are new (still in packaging).
REI Co-op Women’s Fleece Jacket, Burgundy, Small – $25
• 100% Polyester • Made in Vietnam
This fleece jacket is a simple full-zip design with no hood and two zip pockets for your hands to keep warm. The image makes the jacket look kind of brown, but it’s more of a burgundy color. Here’s a more accurate representation of the color.
Condition notes: My wife has loved this fleece, but it still looks like the day she bought it. There are no loose threads, no holes, no pilling whatsoever. We’re very impressed with how it has held up.

Shoes

Keen Men’s Durand Polar Shell Boot, 11.5 US – $90
• Assembled in USA of imported materials
These boots are waterproof, warm, durable, and great on ice! I’ve only worn these a couple of times, but they’re just a bit excessive for someone living in Texas. They served me well when walking on an iced over lake in Vermont, but for most of the cold weather hiking I do, these are a bit overkill. Keen lists these as rated to -25° F (-32° C), with 200g insulation. Assembled in Portland, Oregon. I replaced the laces on these because I didn’t like the original ones, but I was able to find the originals. I will include both pairs.
Condition notes: These are nearly in new condition. The tread is pristine, and there are no visible scuffs or tears. More pictures available by request.

Backpacks/Luggage

Military-Style Surplus ALICE Backpack w/ Frame and Waist Strap – $30 PLUS SHIPPING\*
I cannot verify the authenticity or the origin of this bag, but it sure seems to be the real thing. It was purchased from an army surplus store somewhere in Texas (either Austin or San Antonio, I can’t remember), and it’s in exactly the same shape as when I purchased it. It has 3 large pouches on the outside, and one huge main compartment that also has an internal pocket to keep heavier items close to your back. The top cover has a hook-and-loop pocket built into it. The frame is very sturdy, and is great for lashing large items.
Condition notes: This bag has definitely been used, but there are no tears, holes, or loose threads. It has no zippers to break, and the straps are all in pretty good shape. In one picture, you will note that the hole in one of the metal buckles on the shoulder straps broke and can no longer retain a pull loop. It does not affect the performance of the backpack. You will need to apply pressure to the buckles to lock it into place. Additionally, the previous owner used a heavy duty tape to keep the straps out of the way (none have been cut), so there is some tape residue in various places.
\Shipping note: Because of the metal frame, this backpack requires a larger box that means a greater shipping cost. If you are interested in this pack, shoot me your zip code and I can get you an estimate on shipping – the range is about $20–$50 for CONUS.*
Tom Bihn Aeronaut 45, Black – $140
• Exterior: Black 1050D Ballistic Nylon • Interior: Yellow Halcyon 200D Ripstop Grid Nylon • Made in USA
For those not familiar with the brand, this beautiful piece of luggage is built to be tough and extremely versatile. It’s well-designed and easy to carry. The padded handle on top makes hand carry easy, and the hidden backpack straps are comfortable, easy to deploy, and tuck away neatly. The bag also includes loops to attach a shoulder strap (not included). The organization is top-notch, and the pack is designed to be the maximum size allowed as a domestic carry-on. It makes a great choice for onebag!
Condition notes: Overall, this piece is in pretty good condition, but there are some abuse scuffs from TSA. The front panel has a mark that looks like it rubbed against a conveyor belt, and there are a few scuffs along the handle and top of the bag. The damage is light, and shouldn’t affect the lifespan of the bag, as it is built from very durable 1050D ballistic nylon. One of the zipper pulls on the main compartment is missing the corded zipper pull extension (see image). Message me for additional detailed images.

Outdoor Gear

OneTigris Mirage Mesh Tent – $35
• Mesh: Polyester Fibre B3 Netting • FlooWalls: Oxford Cloth with PU dual-coating Bathtub Bottom (I don't know what they mean by Oxford Cloth, it's 30D nylon)
I’m not certain of the origin of this tent. This is a lightweight single-person option that I found on Amazon. It can be set up by tying each end to nearby trees/posts, using trekking poles (pictured, not included), or running a ridge line (not included). The tent includes 6 stakes, 6 guy lines, and a stuff sack. POLES AND RAIN FLY ARE NOT INCLUDED. The tent weighs approximately 1 lb 14 oz with included stuff sack, tent stakes, and guy lines. It measures approximately 78 inches long by 47 inches wide by 43 inches tall when set up, and packs down to approximately 11 inches long by 5 inches in diameter.
IMPORTANT: This is a mesh-only tent, and it does NOT include a rain fly! It is intended to be used with a tarp. If you're interested, I can add in a grey 95x83 tarp with corner grommets and straps for $10. Fully stretched, it should cover the 78-inch shelter with just a few inches of overlap.
Condition notes: This tent is in great shape. I've only camped in it once, and I've set it up a couple of times in the backyard to figure it out. No tears, holes, or other known damage.
Photo note: The photos for this were shot for a previous listing, and it’s kind of a pain to set up a tent and take photos. Please note that the first photo includes today’s date, for verification.
Therm-a-Rest Pro Plus Self-Inflating Sleeping Pad, Small – $25
• Made in USA
This sleeping pad is a comfortable option for back sleepers looking for a 3/4-length pad to reduce weight or a pad for their child. It measures approximately 48 in long by 20 in wide at the widest point. Pad is 1.5 in thick, and packs down to about 12 in long by 5 in diameter. Weighs approximately 1 lb with included sack.
Condition notes: The top shows typical wear and tear, with wrinkles and minimal scuffing. The pad has no known leaks or issues, and it still seems to work like the day I bought it. I recommend storing it aired up – when you receive it, it will take some time to self-inflate the first time after shipping.

Sold items (no longer available)

[SOLD] [SALE PENDING] Ibex Shak Spire Hoodie, Black, Medium – $90
• 100% Merino Wool • Made in USA of imported materials
This full-zip hoodie is warm and comfy. It fits snugly throughout, but has enough stretch to remain comfortable. The sleeves have thumb loops, making this a decent option for a base or mid-layer in very cold temperatures.
Condition notes: I hardly ever wore this. It’s in great condition. No pilling, no stains, and no tears or holes. This item has always been stored in a zipped bag, never on a hanger and never accessible to bugs.
[SOLD] [SALE PENDING, 1 WAITLIST] Polarmax Men’s Core 3.0 Tight, Black, Large – $15
• 92% Polyester / 8% Lycra • Made in USA
These tights are VERY warm. They’re pretty lightweight and minimal, but they manage to up the heat factor with these quite a bit. There’s a decent bit of stretch in them. I don’t think I’ve ever actually worn these beyond trying them on, because they’ve always just been too hot for me to get any use out of them in Texas. These pair well with the 4-Way Stretch Crew below. These tights are opaque (not see-through).
Condition notes: These are pretty much like new. There are no damages to report, no stains, and no known wear. As I mentioned above, I don’t think I’ve ever worn these.
[SOLD] [SALE PENDING, 1 WAITLIST] Polarmax Men’s 4-Way Stretch Crew, Black, Large – $15
• 92% Polyester / 8% Lycra • Made in USA
This long-sleeve crew is also very toasty. Again, I don’t believe I’ve ever worn this top beyond just trying it on and deciding it’s still too hot. It’s pretty stretch, and form-fitting. Pairs well with the tights above. This crew is opaque (not see-through).
Condition notes: These are pretty much like new. There are no damages to report, no stains, and no known wear. As I mentioned above, I don’t think I’ve ever worn these.
[SOLD] [SALE PENDING] Polarmax Men’s Polar 1 Lightweight Pant, Black w/ Silver Trim, Large – $10
• 100% Polyester • Made in USA
These pants add a minimal amount of warmth, and I used them well in Texas winters. They’re pretty comfortable, but the fabric is somewhat sheer, so be aware if you intend to wear them as your only layer.
Condition notes: I’ve used these a fair bit, and they are showing some signs of pilling. There are no holes, stains, or loose threads in them, so I think they should stand up for quite a bit longer under normal use.
[SOLD] [SALE PENDING] Polarmax Men’s Micro H1 Crew, Grey Heather, Medium – $10
• 94% Polyester / 6% Lycra • Made in USA
This long-sleeve crew is a much lighter weight than the 4-Way Stretch above. It fits loosely, but is not baggy. It’s main purpose is to regulate and wick moisture. It adds some warmth, but not much.
Condition notes: I’ve used this crew extensively, but it is still in good shape. There are minor signs of pilling upon close inspection, but there are no holes, tears, loose threads, or stains.
[SOLD] [SALE PENDING] Polarmax Men’s Micro H1 Crew, Ink Blue, Medium – $10
• 94% Polyester / 6% Lycra • Made in USA
This long-sleeve crew is a much lighter weight than the 4-Way Stretch above. It fits loosely, but is not baggy. It’s main purpose is to regulate and wick moisture. It adds some warmth, but not much. The color is listed as Ink Blue, but it’s a bit more turquoise, I think.
Condition notes: I’ve used this crew extensively, but it is still in good shape. There are minor signs of pilling upon close inspection, but there are no holes, tears, loose threads, or stains.
[SALE PENDING] Polarmax Men’s Micro H1 T-Shirt, Black, Medium – $10
• 94% Polyester / 6% Lycra • Made in USA
This short-sleeve tee shirt is the same material as the Micro H1 crew above, but in a black color. It fits like a normal tee-shirt, loose but not baggy. It’s a great summer shirt, and is rated at UPF 39+ (I assume the long sleeves above are rated as well, but it wasn’t stated on the tag, so I didn’t list it above).
Condition notes: This tee is in pretty good condition, better than the Micro H1 crews above. I’ve worn it a few times, but I’m not seeing any obvious signs of pilling. There are no stains, tears, holes, or loose strings.
[SOLD] [SALE PENDING] Polarmax Men’s Base Layer Basic Crew (Large) AND Pant (Medium), White, – $10
• 100% Polyester • Made in USA
I’m selling these two items together because it just wouldn’t be worth the shipping if I sold them separately. This long-sleeve crew and pant set are loose-fitting but not baggy, and actually can be pretty toasty. They’re good in similar situations to when you might wear thermals or long johns around the house. They have minimal stretch in them, which I believe is why they are considered part of the “basic” line.
Condition notes: I’ve only worn these a couple of times. They have no tears, holes, or loose strings. There is some very minor pilling, but overall I think they’re in good condition. No stains.
[SOLD] [SALE PENDING] 32 Degrees Women’s Ultra-Light Packable Down Jacket, Red, Small – $20
• Shell: 100% Nylon • Lining: 100% Nylon • Insulation: 90% Down / 10% Feathers (650 fill power) • Made in China
This no-name down jacket has kind of surprised me with its value, but it’s still a budget jacket. Not much use for a down jacket in Texas, but my wife’s mom bought her this on a whim. It has a removable hood, a full-zip closure with snap-button flap, and two zip pockets. The cuffs are elastic to keep out cold air. The bottom and the hood do not cinch closed. The jacket is extremely packable, but it does not include a stuff sack.
Condition notes: The jacket is very clean with no holes or significant damage issues, but there are loose threads throughout because of the build quality. This jacket isn’t a lifetime purchase, but it’s a good deal for someone looking for a lightweight option they can abuse and throw out without much care. The down has surprisingly stayed inside the jacket from what I’ve seen.
[SOLD] [SALE PENDING] Topo Designs Stack Pack, Turquoise/Bright Yellow – $40
• 1000D Cordura Nylon • Made in Vietnam
This 17L pack holds a surprising amount of stuff, and it fits under most airline seats (which is the main reason I purchased it). It would also make a great day pack. The back is decently vented with mesh, and the straps have some pretty good padding. There are ample attachment options as well, including a shock cord bungee and dual loops. Inside, there are several organizational pockets to keep your small items organized. If you’re familiar with other Topo products, I was able to fit the Camera Cube into the bottom of this pack, with plenty of extra room for carry-on necessities. It will fit a 15” laptop into a padded interior sleeve.
Condition notes: There is virtually no wear and tear on this bag, but there are some scuff marks and stains on the bright yellow portions of the bag, internally and along the bottom of the bag. If you would like a detailed view of these, please message me.
[SOLD] [SALE PENDING, 1 WAITLIST] Topo Designs Pack Bag, Black – $10
• Made in USA (I think)
This is a basic packing cube, designed to help organize your luggage. It works well with the Stack Pack listed above, or probably any other bag. It measures approximately 10” W x 14” H x 3” D and zips on all three sides with nice, chunky YKK zippers. It also has a mesh pocket inside. Please note, although the current line of pack bags from Topo Designs is made in Vietnam, I believe this older version to be made in USA because it has the US flag tag that the company usually uses to denote products made domestically. This version is from before they had varying sizes of these pack bags, and is not currently offered on their site. Backcountry.com lists the red version as “Handmade along Colorado's Front Range,” whatever that means.
Condition notes: Like new. No stains, no damage, everything works flawlessly.
[SOLD] [SALE PENDING] Sawyer Personal Water Filtration Bottle – $15
• Made in USA (I think)
This water filtration bottle has never been used in the field. I bought it as part of my bug out bag, and never had a need for it. Filter removes 99.9999%+ of bacteria, protozoa, E. Coli, giardia, vibrio cholerea, Salmonella typhi, and microplastics. Does NOT filter viruses. Weighs 5.5 oz. and includes a BPA-free bottle, 63 mm flip top cap, filter, and backwashing syringe. Please note, I believe all Sawyer products are made in USA, but I do not have the original packaging and cannot readily find information online about the origin of this product.
Condition notes: Logo rubbed off just slightly on one side of the bottle. Otherwise in great condition with no damage and no use.

2020.09.14 14:27 rusticgorilla Lost in the Sauce: GOP source has been a Russian agent for a decade

Welcome to Lost in the Sauce, keeping you caught up on political and legal news that often gets buried in distractions and theater… or a global health crisis.
Housekeeping:

GOP source is Russian agent

The Treasury Department announced new sanctions against Andriy Derkach, a Ukrainian lawmaker, accusing him of being an "active Russian agent" who is part of Moscow's interference in the 2020 campaign. Derkach has been actively promoting discredited anti-Biden materials for many months, including meeting with Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani to hand over disinformation (picture).
Between May and July 2020, Derkach released edited audio tapes and other unsupported information with the intent to discredit U.S. officials, and he levied unsubstantiated allegations against U.S. and international political figures
These tapes were laundered through Giuliani to OANN, the Senate Homeland Security Committee (via Chairman Sen. Ron Johnson), Don Jr., and the president himself.
Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden (D-OR) called out Sen. Johnson and Sen. Chuck Grassley (Chair of Senate Finance Cmte.) for collaborating with Derkach:
Derkach has been central in advancing the Russian disinformation that underpins Senate Republicans’ effort to smear Vice President Biden. For example, in April, the Republican chairmen of the Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs and Finance Committees requested information about purported calls between Vice President Biden and Ukrainian officials. Then in May edited excerpts of those same calls involving Biden were leaked by Derkach and Andrii Telizhenko, the Senate Republicans’ star witness.
...Senate investigations should not parrot conspiracy theories pushed by Russian agents under U.S. sanctions, and Senate Republicans should immediately abandon this blatantly political effort.

DHS Whistleblower

Last week, the House Intelligence Committee released a whistleblower complaint made by former acting Under Secretary of Homeland Security for Intelligence and Analysis Brian Murphy. Chairman Adam Schiff released a statement saying the complaint “outlines grave and disturbing allegations that senior White House and Department of Homeland Security officials improperly sought to politicize, manipulate, and censor intelligence in order to benefit President Trump politically.”

On Russia

Page 10: Mr. Murphy made several protected disclosures between March 2018 and August 2020 regarding a repeated pattern of abuse of authority, attempted censorship of intelligence analysis and improper administration of an intelligence program related to Russian efforts to influence and undermine United States interests. The relevant officials at issue were Secretary Nielsen and Messrs. Wolf, Cuccinelli, Taylor, and Acting Deputy Director for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, Kash Patel (“Mr. Patel”).
In May 2020, Acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf told Murphy to “cease providing intelligence assessments on the threat of Russian interference in the United States, and instead start reporting on interference activities by China and Iran.” Wolf told Murphy those instructions came directly from White House national security adviser Robert O’Brien, according to Murphy, who said he refused to comply because “doing so would put the country in substantial and specific danger.”
In July 2020, DHS chief of staff John Gountanis intervened to stop publication of an intelligence bulletin warning about a Russian disinformation plot to “denigrate” the mental health of Joe Biden. On July 8, Murphy said, he met with Wolf, who told him that the intelligence notification should be “held” because it “made the President look bad.” After Murphy protested, Wolf excluded him from meetings about the notification, a draft of which was ultimately produced that Murphy felt minimized the actions of Russia.
The complaint details dozens of instances in which Murphy told his superiors about the abuses of power and political interference. The complaints either went nowhere or resulted in perceived retaliatory actions against Murphy. Many of these complaints were given to Kash Patel, former staffer to Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA), who played a key role in a Republican effort to discredit Mueller’s and the FBI’s Russia probes.
  • Related: NSC’s top legislative affairs official, Virginia Boney, was removed and sent to the Commerce Department earlier this year because she kept pressing the White House to prioritize election security efforts — and specifically the threat posed by Russia. To date, there have been no traditional NSC Principals Committee meetings — with senior Cabinet officials and the president — on the subject of Russian interference this year.

On white supremacy

Page 14: During multiple meetings between the end of May 2020 and July 31, 2020, Mr. Murphy made protected disclosures to Messrs. Wolf and Cuccinelli regarding abuse of authority and improper administration of an intelligence program with respect to intelligence information on ANTIFA and “anarchist” groups operating throughout the United States.
Murphy alleges that Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Deputy Secretary Ken Cuccinelli ordered him to modify intelligence assessments to make the threat of white supremacy “appear less severe” and include information on violent “left-wing” groups and Antifa. The reason given was “to ensure they matched up with the public comments by President Trump on the subject of ANTIFA and ‘anarchist’ groups.”
After Murphy refused to change a draft report warning of the threat posed by White supremacists, Wolf and Cuccinelli reportedly stopped the report from being finished.

On immigration and asylum

In Dec. 2019, Cuccinelli expressed frustration with intelligence reports detailing conditions in Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador, and accused "deep-state intelligence analysts" of compiling the information to undermine Trump's objectives regarding asylum.
Page 9: The intelligence reports were designed to help asylum officers render better determinations regarding their legal standards… Mr. Murphy defended the work in the reports, but Mr. Cuccinelli stated he wanted changes to the information outlining high levels of corruption, violence, and poor economic conditions in the three respective countries...
Mr. Cuccinelli ordered Messrs. Murphy and [former I&A Under Secretary David] Glawe to identify the names of the “deep state” individuals who compiled the intelligence reports and to either fire or reassign them immediately.
Murphy also alleges that DHS gave false information to Congress last year about the numbers of suspected terrorists crossing the southern border. At the time, administration officials were repeating a 4,000 figure in an effort to justify the government shutdown over Trump's border wall. The true number was actually six. A DHS spokeswoman pressured NBC to take down a story exposing the lie last year.

Response

Chairman Schiff has subpoenaed Murphy to testify before the Intelligence Cmte. on September 21. The Cmte. also seeks to interview high-level DHS officials including Matthew Hanna, chief of staff in Murphy's former post at DHS' Office of Intelligence and Analysis; the office's top official, Horace Jen; DHS chief of staff John Gountanis; and his deputy, Tyler Houlton.
The Senate Intelligence Cmte. issued a bipartisan request for all of the intelligence analyses that Murphy referenced in his complaint, as well as any notes and materials that fed into them. The House Homeland Security Cmte. issued a subpoena for testimony from Wolf at a hearing on Sept. 17, but DHS says that Wolf will not comply and offers Cuccinelli to testify instead. Also scheduled to be at the hearing: FBI Director Christopher Wray and Christopher Miller of the National Counterterrorism Center.

Russia still interfering

Facebook recently took down accounts and pages associated with a Russian influence operation posing as an independent news outlet. The operation published content described as “an attempt to build a left-wing audience and steer it away from Biden’s campaign, in the same way that the original IRA [Internet Research Agency] tried to depress progressive and minority support for Hillary Clinton in 2016.”
  • The same Russian operation tried and failed to infiltrate left-wing media outlets such as Jacobin, Truthout, and In These Times.
Bob Woodward reported that“the NSA and CIA have classified evidence the Russians had placed malware in the election registration systems of at least two Florida counties, St. Lucie and Washington. While there was no evidence the malware had been activated, Woodward writes, it was sophisticated and could erase voters in specific districts.”
  • Woodward’s book also notes that former director of national intelligence Dan Coats has "deep suspicions" that Russian President Vladimir Putin "had something" on President Trump, seeing "no other explanation" for the president's behavior.
Microsoft alerted SKDKnickerbocker, one of Biden’s main election campaign advisory firms, that suspected Russian state-backed hackers had gone after the company with a failed phishing attack.

DOJ, politicization, and resignations

A top aide to Connecticut U.S. Attorney John Durham, federal prosecutor Nora Dennehy, resigned from the Justice Department and Durham’s investigation into the origins of the Russia probe. Dannehy reportedly resigned “at least partly out of concern” that Trump and AG Barr were exerting improper political pressure on the team to release results before the November election.
Several officials said expectations had been growing in the White House and Congress that Mr. Barr would make public, ahead of the election, some kind of interim report or list of findings from Mr. Durham before he completed the investigation. Mr. Barr had wanted Mr. Durham’s team to move quickly, according to a person familiar with the matter.
Trump has publicly expressed impatience with the Durham investigation, saying there should be more prosecutions and disclosures of information that would damage his political rivals. “Bill Barr has the chance to be the greatest of all time, but if he wants to be politically correct, he’ll be just another guy, because he knows all the answers, he knows what they have, and it goes right to Obama and it goes right to Biden,” Trump said (clip).
Last month, Barr predicted “significant developments in the probe before the election” (clip) and he indicated the DOJ would not respect an informal policy against taking investigative steps 60 days before Election Day. It was for this exact reason that the Trump administration claimed it fired former FBI Director James Comey.
On Tuesday’s Fox News, White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows appeared to claim that he has seen documents—relevant to U.S. Attorney John Durham’s probe of the origins of the Russia investigation—which implicate several Trump and Obama administration officials in potentially illegal conduct.
  • Further reading: “Dannehy Resignation Confirms Barr’s Intent to Use Durham Probe for Political Ends,” Just Security.
Two other DOJ officials resigned last week:
Prosecutor John Choi resigned from Trump's law enforcement commission after expressing "serious" concerns that the intention of the commission was not to bridge the gap between communities of color and law enforcement.
Choi, a Democrat, said in his resignation letter that "it is now patently obvious ... that this process had no intention of engaging in a thoughtful and open analysis, but was intent on providing cover for a predetermined agenda that ignores the lessons of the past, furthering failed tough-on-crime policies that led to our current mass incarceration crisis and fueling divisions between our communities and our police officers."
Deputy Assistant AG David Morrell resigned on Friday, withdrawing from cases defending the government’s position on issues including the Census and the Portland protests.

The courts

A three-judge panel blocked the Trump administration from excluding undocumented immigrants from being counted in the census for apportionment. Trump’s order violates a statue saying apportionment must be based on everyone who is a resident of the United States.
District Judge Lucy Koh ordered the Trump admin. to produce internal documents connected to its sudden decision to end the 2020 Census count a month earlier. Two weeks ago, Koh temporarily blocked the bureau from winding down the count until a hearing set for Sept. 17.
Court-appointed adviser and retired judge John Gleeson slammed the Justice Department’s decision to drop the case against Michael Flynn, calling it a "corrupt and politically motivated favor.” A hearing on the matter is scheduled for Sept. 29.
"In the United States, Presidents do not orchestrate pressure campaigns to get the Justice Department to drop charges against defendants who have pleaded guilty -- twice, before two different judges -- and whose guilt is obvious," Gleeson wrote.
"Yet that is exactly what has unfolded here," he added.
A judge denied a bid to dismiss a lawsuit alleging that Trump's inaugural committee and the Trump Organization misused nonprofit funds to enrich the president's family business. The suit, brought by Washington, D.C., Attorney General Karl Racine in January, alleges that the president's inaugural committee was aware that it was being overcharged for services at Trump's Washington hotel in 2017 and still spent over $1 million at the hotel.
The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control announced two settlements totaling $583,100 with Deutsche Bank to resolve investigations into violations of Ukraine-related sanctions. The resolution came as the bank hired “an old friend” of AG Barr to “help the bank navigate the political waters in Washington.”

Trump profiting

Federal spending records show that taxpayers have paid Trump’s businesses more than $900,000 since he took office. At least $570,000 came as a result of the president’s travel.
In addition to the rentals at Mar-a-Lago, the documents show that the Trump Organization charged daily “resort fees” to Secret Service agents guarding Vice President Pence in Las Vegas and in another instance asked agents to pay a $1,300 “furniture removal charge” during a presidential visit to a Trump resort in Scotland.
Additionally, the Trump Organization has received at least $3.8 million in fees from GOP groups for headlining a political event at one of his properties.
Last month, the Trump Organization received approval for a new trademark in Argentina, the third one in the country. Last November, Trump may have altered U.S. foreign policy to assist his company in obtaining approval for the two previous trademarks. “Shortly after the trademark opposition period ended in April 2018, the Trump administration lifted tariffs on steel and aluminum in Argentina. Once the trademarks were officially granted to his company in November of last year, Trump announced that he would reinstate the tariffs.”
Somehow, Ivanka Trump’s fashion business is still making money despite being shutdown. According to her latest financial disclosures, “All operations of the business ceased on July 31, 2018.” Also according to her latest financial disclosures, she made at least six figures from the trust holding that business in 2019.
We - American taxpayers - footed the bill for “anti-scale fencing” along the perimeter of the White House this summer. The wall, ostensibly to protect Trump from protesters, cost over $1 million. Trump has a history of charging taxpayers for barriers around his properties, including $17,000 for fencing around Mar-a-Lago and $12,000 for “privacy fencing” around Trump International golf resort.

Immigration news

About 8,800 unaccompanied children have been quickly expelled from the United States along the Mexico border under a pandemic-related measure that effectively ended asylum. In total, the Trump administration has expelled more than 159,000 people since March.
ICE officers on the West Coast wanted to suppress Black Lives Matter protests in DC. But they aren't allowed to travel on charter flights without detainees on board. So they brought some detainees with them. In the process, they fueled a massive, deadly COVID outbreak at the Virginia facility that infected over 300 detainees, killing one.
The Pentagon is restarting many domestic projects that were plundered by Trump for money to pay for his border wall. The decision to revive these domestic projects has provided cover for Republican senators who were criticized when their home states lost military construction projects to the president’s wall.

Miscellaneous

Corruption: Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is bringing back his extravagant, taxpayer-funded "Madison Dinners."
Corruption: Medicaid chief Seema Verma has charged taxpayers $6 million in less than two years for expensive consultants, organizers, and events. The Republican consultants were paid by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to work on Verma’s personal image, obtain profiles and coverage from friendly reporters, escort her during travel, write opinion articles, and even draft her Twitter posts.
Corruption: The Trump administration secretly withheld millions of dollars from a program for 9/11 first responders.
Corruption: “Ukraine gas company to add Rick Perry pick to board” and “Rick Perry’s Ukrainian Dream
Protests: Trump endorsed the extrajudicial killing of the suspect in a deadly Portland, Oregon, shooting. . “This guy was a violent criminal, and the US Marshals killed him,” Trump told Fox News host Jeanine Pirro. “And I will tell you something, that’s the way it has to be. There has to be retribution” (clip).
Protests: A witness claims that the Portland suspect, Michael Forest Reinoehl, was not armed and was shot by officers without any warning.
Rightwing: “QAnon fans spread fake claims about real fires in Oregon” and “'Do not take action yourselves': Multnomah Co. Sheriff's Office warns of illegal 'checkpoints' ”
Rightwing: Mark Zuckerberg says it's "just wrong" to consider Facebook a right-wing echo chamber driven by conservative voices. But data from his own company shows that’s exactly what Facebook is.
Environment: David Legates, a University of Delaware professor of climatology who has spent much of his career questioning basic tenets of climate science, has been hired for a top position at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
Environment: How Big Oil Misled The Public Into Believing Plastic Would Be Recycled. Your plastic will not be recycled.
Environment: Trump’s Fire Sale of Public Lands for Oil and Gas Drillers: The Bureau of Land Management is rushing to auction off sites ahead of a potential Biden presidency.
World: The Iranian government is considering assassinating the US ambassador to South Africa in response to the killing earlier this year of Qassem Soleimani, according to highly classified intel reports. The plot against the ambassador, Lana Marks, is one of several options US officials believe Iran is considering for retaliation over Soleimani’s death.
  • Woodward reported that Sen. Lindsey Graham urged Trump not to assassinate Suleimani while on the golf course with the president. Graham warned Trump he would be raising the stakes from “playing $10 blackjack to $10,000-a-hand blackjack”. “This is over the top,” the senator said. “How about hitting someone a level below Suleimani, which would be much easier for everyone to absorb?”
World: Read some of the “love letters” Kim Jong Un sent to Trump.
World: Woodward also reported that Trump boasted that he protected Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman after Jamal Khashoggi's brutal murder. "I saved his ass,” Trump said. “I was able to get Congress to leave him alone. I was able to get them to stop.”

The pilot was fatally injured. The helicopter was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 133 external load flight.
The helicopter was being operated under an exclusive use contract with the United States Forest Service (USFS), and had been conducting water bucket operations in support of the White River fire in Mt. Hood, National Forest. Radio communications with the helicopter pilot was lost and a second helicopter was dispatched in an effort to locate the pilot. The helicopter wreckage was later found at a designated dip site on the White River. The helicopter came to rest on its right side with the 140-foot long-line still attached to the cargo hook. The left-side, main rotor blades had separated at the blade roots, and were located about 500 feet north west from the fuselage. The right-side rotor pylon, rotor hub, and one main rotor blade had separated from the fuselage and were found near the tail boom of the helicopter. The other right-side main rotor blade had separated from the hub and was found about 50 feet from the fuselage. All other major components were located near the fuselage in a small debris field.
The helicopter was relocated to a secure facility for further examination.

2020.09.12 02:02 Jon_Serves What Now?

First time posting here, but here’s my story.
I took a plea deal in 2015 for deferred adjudication for one count of possession of CP. I live in a relatively large city in Texas, life isn’t to bad here except when it comes to registering every year. My PO is great hardly intrusive, I’m up to date on my payments, I comply with all my restrictions. The kicker is I’m 25 living with my parents, and I want out. My city has an ordinance barring any RSO from living within 1000 ft of anywhere children can gather, and it seems like my city is riddled with parks and child care services. My parents have offered me their rental home but it sits at the edge of the restricted zone. I’m losing hope on ever finding a place, my ever optimistic boyfriend is took a major blow when I told him that the rental wouldn’t work. We both make decent money for our city but it’s starting to to look like we’ll have to leave our families behind to have our own place. I’ve read that Washington or Oregon might be our best bet and if we’re lucky he might be able to request a transfer from his job. I was 17 when the incident happened, I was arrested 2 years later and I took the plea deal almost a year after my first court date. I’m not sure what to do anymore. Granted I am grateful that I didn’t have to do any jail time, but what’s the point of the deferred adjudication if the charge might say I was never convicted, but I’m required to register for life?
Thanks for reading, I tried to check the rules about posting but they wouldn’t load for some reason. Let me know if I need to change anything or if I need to delete the post.

2020.09.09 17:05 finnagains The Civil War Election - Trump is An Open Fascist Dictator - Wall Street Loves Biden (World Socialist Web Site) 9 September 2020

The US presidential election is now eight weeks away. The campaign between Trump and Biden is pitting an administration that is making an increasingly open appeal to violence and police state repression against a Democratic Party campaign that, as always, offers no genuine alternative to the drive toward authoritarianism and war.
The Trump administration is utilizing the election campaign in an attempt to build up a right-wing, fascistic movement on a ferociously antisocialist basis. Trump has followed up his praise of Kyle Rittenhouse, who murdered two protesters and injured a third in Kenosha, Wisconsin last month, with calls for vengeance directed against opponents of police violence.
At his press conference on Monday, the president hailed the killing of protester Michael Reinoehl by US Marshals last week. “If somebody is breaking the law, there has got to be a form of retribution,” Trump declared, condoning extrajudicial reprisals from his supporters. The same day, he retweeted a statement from right-wing commentator Dinesh D’Souza declaring that political unrest would lead to the “rise of citizen militias around the country”—that is, fascistic vigilante organizations like Patriot Prayer, responsible for terrorizing protesters in Portland, Oregon.
As the World Socialist Web Site has noted, Trump is not running for president; he is running for Führer. His campaign seems to be modeled on Hitler’s bid for German chancellor in 1932. Using language that is unprecedented in American history, Trump is seeking to create conditions, regardless of the outcome on November 3, in which he will emerge as the leader of an extra-constitutional, right-wing movement.
There is no doubt that if Trump wins, he will immediately escalate the suppression of democratic rights and implementation of police state forms of rule.
Under these conditions, the argument of the Democratic Party is that all opposition to Trump must be directed behind the election of Biden. For workers to allow their struggles to be subordinated to the electoral considerations of the Democratic Party, however, would be a fatal political error.
Trump did not emerge from nowhere. He expresses in the most unvarnished form the essentially fascistic, antidemocratic impulse of the American ruling class as a whole. That Trump is not some sort of demon unleashed from hell is revealed in the fact that the growth of authoritarianism and fascism is a universal phenomenon, from Brazil and India to France and Germany.
The working class must direct its opposition to the underlying disease of which Trump is an expression. What are the conditions that are fueling this crisis?
First, the coronavirus pandemic has exposed the catastrophic state to which capitalism has driven society. It is an extreme expression and product of the subordination of everything to the profit interests of the corporate and financial oligarchy.
The ruling class has effectively adopted a policy of “herd immunity,” allowing the virus to spread without restraint. The back-to-work campaign, spearheaded by Trump but implemented by both the Democrats and Republicans, has already led to an enormous surge in the death toll, which is now approaching 200,000 people. The University of Washington now estimates that the number of deaths by the end of the year could rise to above 400,000.
Second, alongside the health impact of the pandemic is a deepening social and economic crisis for millions of people. Despite the back-to-work campaign, there are more than 11 million fewer jobs now than before the pandemic hit. It is six weeks since Congress allowed federal unemployment benefits to expire, throwing millions into poverty. The number of Americans facing hunger this year is projected to increase by 45 percent, to more than 50 million.
The multitrillion-dollar bailout of Wall Street, sanctioned with the nearly unanimous support of Congress in late March, produced massive growth in the wealth of the oligarchy. On Tuesday, Forbes published its latest update on the wealth of American billionaires, reporting that the wealth of the richest 400 people has reached a record $3.2 trillion, up $240 billion from a year ago.
Third, the deepening economic, social and political crisis increases the danger that the ruling class will see war abroad as a means of resolving its problems at home. Trump is making aggressive moves in the South China Sea as part of its offensive against China, while the Democrats, if they come to power, are committed to an intensification of the conflict with Russia and war in the Middle East.
It is to these conditions that the Trump administration is responding. In its October 19, 2019 statement, “No to American fascism! Build a mass movement to force Trump out!,” the Socialist Equality Party stated: To downplay, let alone deny, the fact that the Trump presidency is metastasizing rapidly into a right-wing authoritarian regime, with distinctly fascist characteristics, is to close one’s eyes to political reality. The old refrain, “It can’t happen here”—i.e., that American democracy is eternally immune from the cancer of fascism—is hopelessly out of date. The very fact that a thug like Trump ascended to the White House testifies to the terminal crisis of the existing political system.
These processes have only intensified over the past year, vastly accelerated by the coronavirus pandemic. Trump’s fascistic rhetoric is an attempt to beat back a growing social movement of the working class against the policies of the corporate and financial oligarchy.
The Democratic Party, however, represents another faction of the same oligarchy. Its appeal is to dominant factions of the military and the intelligence agencies as the arbiters of political power to whom it will turn if Trump refuses to leave office. Its main aim is to suppress any form of social opposition that threatens the interests of the ruling elite.
Over the past week, Biden has denounced protests over police violence, attacked socialism, and made clear that he will run his campaign on the most right-wing basis possible. In the final stages of the election, the Democrats are attempting to revive their anti-Russia campaign to ever more explicitly target left-wing opposition within the United States as the work of “foreign adversaries.”
Biden presents himself as the “man in the middle” under conditions of a developing civil war situation. His campaign offers nothing to address the social catastrophe confronting masses of people. The Democrats’ open embrace of militarist violence—welcoming as part of their “coalition” the leading architects of the Iraq war—even allows the fascistic Trump to posture as an opponent of the “military-industrial complex.”
The Democrats are above all opposed to raising any issues that undermine the economic and financial interests of the ruling elite. An indication of the social policies that a Biden campaign would pursue if in office was given in an article published in the Washington Post on Monday. Referring to the economic proposals released by the Biden campaign—consisting of milquetoast reforms that were the product of discussions with the “Sanders-Warren” wing of the party—the Post wrote: But in private calls with Wall Street leaders, the Biden campaign made it clear those proposals would not be central to Biden’s agenda. “They basically said, ‘Listen, this is just an exercise to keep the Warren people happy, and don’t read too much into it,’” said one investment banker, referring to liberal supporters of Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-mass.). The banker, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe private talks, said that message was conveyed on multiple calls.
The Democratic Party, for all its denunciations of Trump, makes no mention of the essentially fascistic character of the policies he is pursuing. It should be recalled that even though Trump lost the last election by three million votes, the immediate response of the Democratic Party was to offer its collaboration. The election, Obama said, was an “intramural scrimmage” between two sides of the same team.
If the Democrats were to lose on November 3, or even if they were to win, the response would be no different. They would immediately offer an olive branch to Trump and the Republican Party.
The ability of Trump to attract and maintain a following is largely a product of the inability of the Democrats to offer anything to address the social crisis. In the end, the actual differences are marginal, focused above all on foreign policy. The fact that the contest is even close, under conditions of mass death and social devastation, is an indictment of the Democratic Party. It is incapable of making a popular appeal precisely because of the class interests that it represents.
The strategy of the working class cannot be guided by the arithmetic of an election, but the logic of the class struggle.
The Socialist Equality Party and our election campaign—Joseph Kishore for president and Norissa Santa Cruz for vice president—direct all of our attention to the growth of working class opposition. The election must be seen not as an end, but as part of a broader process. This will prepare the working class for whatever outcome—whether it is Trump or Biden in the White House or whether it is the direct intervention of the military.
There is already growing opposition in the working class. Teachers and parents are mobilizing against the efforts to reopen the schools amidst the raging pandemic. Educators and students have begun to fight against the dangerous reopening of colleges and universities, including a strike that began yesterday at the University of Michigan by 1,000 lecturers and graduate students.
There is seething anger among autoworkers, Amazon workers, transportation workers, service workers and other sections of the working class to the back-to-work campaign and the effort by the corporations to use the pandemic to increase exploitation. A “winter of discontent” is brewing with millions out of work and facing poverty and eviction.
This is combined with the continued protests over police violence and racism, sparked in late May by the murder of George Floyd. While fueled by the unending epidemic of police violence, the protests have given expression to deep social anger and a desire among millions of workers and youth to fight back.
The struggles of different sections of the working class must be organized and united through the formation of independent factory, workplace and neighborhood safety committees. The fight of teachers against the back-to-school campaign must be connected with the fight of students against the reopening of the universities, the fight of workers against the horrific conditions in the plants, the fight of the unemployed against social devastation, and the fight of the youth against police violence.
At issue in every struggle is the question of political power: What class rules and in whose interests. The only solution to the crisis is one that is directed against the capitalist system. A massive diversion of social resources away from the bailout of the rich and the financing of militarism and war is required. The wealth of the oligarchs must be seized, and the gigantic corporations and banks turned into public utilities to create the conditions for a globally coordinated program to save lives.
The fight against the pandemic is not primarily a medical question. As with every great problem confronting the working class—social inequality and poverty, war, environmental degradation and dictatorship—it is a political and revolutionary question, which raises the need for the working class to take power in its own hands, overthrow capitalism, and restructure all of society on the basis of social need.
This program must become the basis for unifying all the struggles of the working class in the United States and, moreover, provide a lead to the fight of workers throughout the world.
The next two months are critical. The SEP and our sister parties in the International Committee of the Fourth International are spearheading the fight to build a socialist leadership in the working class. This is the most urgent political task. The essential conclusion that must be drawn is to join and build the Socialist Equality Party.

2020.09.09 00:25 rayef3rw A Brief Look at How Covid-19 Impacts Current Annual Consecutive Game Streaks

I think the fact that this season will be a college football season like no other goes without saying. This year is a patchwork quilt of teams that are or aren't playing this fall (or something in-between), with many more games likely to be postponed or canceled due to ongoing Covid-19-related fallout.
Perhaps the only close comparison is the 1918 season, where the closing months of WWI sidelined many of the teams that had traditionally played college football, and the Spanish Flu sidelined the rest for varying periods of time.
Looking back through the history of college football, the World Wars (US involvement during 1917-1918 and 1941-1945) have been the two primary disruptors of the traditional yearly meetings between college football teams. I'll do a little more analysis later on in the post, but the vast majority of the existing consecutive game streaks in college football date to post-WWII, with only 27 currently-surviving consecutive match-ups dating to before 1941.
With that introduction, let's take a look at the longest-surviving uninterrupted match-ups in college football and which ones will be impacted this fall. As a quick aside, this of course all depends on how these records get counted going forward and whether a Spring 2020 season (if/when it happens) will be fully counted as the "2020" season, so I'll just add the caveat that these are uninterrupted fall meetings for now -- and assume that applies throughout.
Let me also preface this list by saying that while I tried to include all of the smaller FCS/DII conferences, I would be shocked if I didn't miss a few. If you notice any uninterrupted rivalry games missing from this list, please! -- let me know!

So, what does this all mean? I won't do a full re-hash of the chart, but I'll do some highlights and summaries of the important sections below.
As a side note, I kind of arbitrarily chose to end in 1972, but it has some justification that I'll get to later on. Really, though, it was mostly just because I felt like that was a decent stopping point.

Most Common Causes of Breaks Before Covid

So, what was the primary reason that most these consecutive game streaks last came to an end? And will it be beaten out by Covid, assuming Spring 2020 doesn't count/doesn't happen? I didn't do a fully exhaustive search (partly because some stuff was hard to find and partly because I got tired of looking, if we're being honest), but World War II ended the bulk of the streaks on this list, adding up to about 40 of the matches. The other factors aren't particularly close to matching that total, though World War I is probably the next closest, aside from generic scheduling conflicts/choosing not to schedule each other, with about 5 stoppages.
Other common factors included:
Other less common reasons for breaks that I found amusing included:

Implications

Discontinued Games

The teams and conferences that suffer the most from this are exactly who you'd expect it to be. The Ivy League, Big Ten, and Pac-12 are losing the most uninterrupted games, though the Patriot League, the SWAC, and the MAC are also losing some notable matches
By far the most notable game that will not be played this fall will be the LafayetteLafayette LehighLehigh match-up; it will be the first time in 123 years that the game won't be played in the fall. It was last forgone in 1896 due to a dispute over player eligibility; had it not been for that break in relations, The Rivalry would have dated back wholly uninterrupted to the two teams' first meeting in 1884, which would have been good for 136 consecutive years of playing.
The next oldest game not to be played this fall is the MinnesotaMinnesota WisconsinWisconsin game, followed by the ClemsonClemson South CarolinaSouth Carolina game, which has been played continuously since 1909, meaning the 2020 season will be the end of 3 of the longest-running continuous series in all of college football.
Finally, one game I hate to see go is the MorehouseMorehouse TuskegeeTuskegee match, which had previously been played continuously since 1936. I couldn't find a lot about the history of this series online very easily, but it's the longest-running HBCU match I could find. Several other historic HBCU rivalries ended temporarily fairly recently owing to the disbanding of Prairie View A&MPrairie View A&M for the 1990 football season.

Previously Unbroken Series

Unfortunately, Covid is putting an end to a few series which have previously met every year without interruption. Those matches include:

Non-Conference Games That Were Maintained

You've got to give a lot of credit to any ADs who managed to keep non-conference rivalry games going through all this. The only consecutive non-conference rivalry games that will survive undamaged are those belonging to three major service academies. Unfortunately, the Merchant MarinesMerchant Marine and the Coast GuardCoast Guard were not so fortunate, and have canceled their fall season.
The ArmyArmy, NavyNavy, and Air ForceAir Force managed to keep afloat their rivalries which have been played continuously since 1971/72 for the Air Force and since 1930 for the Army and Navy. This was possible only by the work of the Air Force, who, as of right now, will be playing only Army and Navy this fall, though the Mountain West Conference did recently announce a revised schedule which allows for 2 non-conference games, so this could change. Both ArmyArmy and NavyNavy are currently playing full schedules.
This was really the main reason I stopped making my list in 1972. That, and it lets me talk about the Textile Bowl (NC State vs Clemson). I'll discuss that in the following section.

Games Unlikely to Be Rescheduled

Though most of these games are intra-conference games that can be rescheduled in the Spring fairly easily, there are a few notable games that will almost certainly not be. Many of these games include teams who will both be playing this season, but will be playing in different conferences or unable to meet for other reasons. These games include:

Non-Conference Games Which Can (Probably) Be Rescheduled

While Conference games are possible to be scheduled fairly easily, there are a few non-conference games which will probably be resumed this Spring.

Closing

To answer that question I posed earlier (will Covid potentially impact more currently-consecutive football meetings than World War II), the answer is yes. While this is a bit disingenuous to say, since many otherwise-consecutive rivalry games impacted by World War II have stopped playing since the war for other reasons (looking at you, 2010-14 Conference Realignment), Covid will impact 66 otherwise-uninterrupted matches, while 32 will continue on. Of those 66 canceled matches, though, only the 9 listed above (under the are Unlikely to Be Rescheduled section) are, in my view, highly unlikely to be revived in the Spring, while the rest can continue on in the Spring if scheduling and Corona allow.
1 - I would like to find a more concise and formal source, but so far one has evaded me
2 - Several Minnesota-based athletic pages say that the cause was Teddy Roosevelt banning rivalry games in 1906; despite that, the only period explanation I've found for the break in the games was a June 1906 article about a ChicagoChicago MinnesotaMinnesota game scheduled for 1907, which said the 1906 match-up was prevented because "The big nine conference [Big 10 today], in forbidding games which established a western championship, did so on the ground that it brought about an unhealthy rivalry and stirred up improper spirit between the big educational institutions." Though the Big 9 could have chosen to do that because of threats by Roosevelt, the immediate cause was the conference's decision.
3 - Some sources disagree on this: At the time of their first athletic break, then-AD at BGSU said "Frankly, Toledo is too tough for us in football. We feel that we can no longer compete on even terms." However, there have also been references to players having "more trouble avoiding flying fists than avoiding blockers and tacklers" before the series was temporarily canceled as well. For a good write-up of the series, see here

2020.09.07 04:38 500scnds [Table] My name is Paolo Cattaneo. 5 years ago I quit my job, sold everything I had and embarked in a trip around the world on a motorcycle. Rode for almost 185000 km. Still going! Here to answer question about self sustained living on the road and long distance solo travelling. AmA! (pt 1)

Questions Answers
How much does this lifestyle cost you on average? Obviously it will vary by location Since the most asked question will be probably this one, I decided to break it down mathematically so, hopefully, it would be more transparent for everybody.
I don't think I could summarize with an average how much I spent per month, since the delta from month to month was absolutely unpredictable. But somehow everybody seems to love maths so... There you go.
A couple of things first: 1) different countries have different cost for food, accommodation, fuel and spare parts so to make an average, it s actually quite hard. For instance, a country like Peru cannot be compared in terms of costs with a country like the Netherlands in all terms. 2) when I travel, I am not on vacation. Just because I visit places and don't work, doesn't mean I can afford things like people that go on vacation for 2 weeks. People on holidays usually maintain the same level of comfort they have at home, or even improve it, righteously spoiling themselves, for the few days they have off in a year. I do the exact opposite. I spoil myself by not having to go to work.
Hence, there are 3 major costs in travelling on a motorcycles are: 1) fuel and bike parts (tyres, oil, filters, etc) 2) accommodation 3) food
These are also in order of importance. Fuel and bike maintenance guarantees the continuity of the journey so, those have the absolute priority. Where I sleep or what I eat, do not matter much. I will survive whatever I eat and wherever I sleep. It's incredible what our body can do end endure.
After a year of travelling I found out that, because my life and routine changed completely, I didn't need 3 meals a day anymore. Removing 1 meal a day allowed me to save a lot of money in the long run. It is a sacrifice but it is doable and It is super practical. I also found fasting good for the mind.
Sleeping arrangements could also affect greatly on your expenditures so, depending on countries and weather conditions, I usually opt to sleep in my tent or in hostels. Sometimes I do couchsurfing or stay at other motorcyclists houses, friends, friends of friends, etc. I ve also slept at complete strangers houses that i met on the road and that were reaching out simply to help. It s unbelievable how many people, just want to give you a hand. It s impossible to explain it. You have to see it yourself to believe it.
The cheap hostel in Peru would cost $5-6 a night, while in the USA $25.
In this sense, I estimated an average of 10 USD a night for accommodation for and average of 20 days per month. Again, It is a rough estimate. Let s say the other 10 days I sleep at people's houses, or in my tent or couchsurfing (so at no cost). Foodwise I usually drink a coffee (I carry my own little Italian coffee machine) in the am, with a piece of bread or instant oatmeal. Then I ride the whole day and reach my destination at 4-5 pm. I then eat. I mostly eat vegetarian but i occasionally have meat. I mostly shop at cheap supermarkets or local markets. Vegetables are cheap and nutritious and available all over the world. And so is pasta and rice. This whole thing costs me let s say 10 USD a day.
So for Food and Accommodation I roughly spend 500 USD. Then there's fuel. Fuel costs can vary from country to country but, for the sake of it, let s put fuel price at 1.2 USD a liter (4.5 USD a gallon). My bike in standard riding conditions does 20km per liter of fuel. In 5 years I rode 180000 km. That's 36000 a year. That s 3000 a month. So 3000/20 = 150 liters. 150 x 1.2 = 180 USD
The grand total is 500+180= 680USD per month Let s put 100 USD in for extras and whatever. It's 780 USD a month, if you will. But trust me when I say that I think I spend less than that.
There you go.
the below is a reply to the above
What is your coffee maker? Moka pot i'm guessing? I have a little Bialetti coffee machine, yes. :)
the below is a reply to the above
Yeah, that confirms you are really Italian. So is my SO, and when we are traveling, she will start complaining about the bad coffee by the time we get to the airport 😄 I am Italian...but I'm also passed that point of complaining about food all the time! I learned to enjoy my meal...regardless. :)
another coffee reply
Any tips for the Bialetti? A neighbor gave me one and I used it with Café Bustelo and it was crazy stong, albeit not too bad. Use less coffee ground! 😅
the below is another reply to the original answer
If you saved 40k, are you down to very little money now? I'm just thinking it's been 5 years, and I imagine you've had some unexpected expenses that would have your average end up being relatively accurate on aggregate, even if you typically spend less in a month. At $700 per month, you would be out of money. And even just the plane tickets from Australia to starting point and from somewhere to Greece where you say you were during Covid is a couple months of your budget I'd imagine. Yes, i had some unforeseen expenses. But luckily I also had a lot of help from people giving me shelter and food. In that sense I didn't spend all my money in food and accommodation but for the sake of average expenses I had to calculate it that way. In greece i found a job as volunteer in exchange of accommodation. That saved me 3 months of rent. Things like this cannot be included in average. I simply did the math to make people understand how much would it cost if life on the road would be without variables. There are too many to be considered.

Even if it's only 600 at month, you have been riding around for how long? It seems hard to think you saved so much and you are still using the money you saved. Is anyone helping you financially? I swear...i am using my money. 😅👍 It s hard to imagine how cheap it is to live frugally...if you renounce to most comforts we have in life. But I wouldn't mind now to have a benefactor(s) and sleep in a comfy bed or have a nice meal for a change.
Does it not worry you how you might have exhausted your financial resources by the time you want to return? What do you think life after this would be like? I hope I don't sound rude; just trying to understand how you are managing your life. What you are doing is absolutely amazing; I'd love to travel too but I am not rich either, and the thought of ending up penniless by the time I am 30 terrifies me. Hey, it's a completely plausible question and I am happy to answer that. Quitting your job, your financial stability, selling everything you have, saying goodbye to everybody and ride off...it is a "liberating" experience. In this sense, all the fears you mentioned are gone or somehow abandoned, the moment you decide to go for it! I have no fear of what lies in front of me because the mental step that I took years ago, required me to go beyond exactly this mental gap of "jumping into the unknown". Financially speaking, yeah, i don't like to have no money aside...but also, I know that I will do something about it (like finding a new stimulating gig) when the time comes. When I found myself locked in Greece during the pandemic, I couldn't really foresee what would have happened in the next months. Surely paying rent for months and being confined in an apartment wasn't ideal so I looked for volunteering jobs. Found one that allowed me to stay in an apartment for free in exchange of 3 hours of work per day. My point is that, adaptation is a key skill that I got to develop thanks to this experience on a motorcycle. I will take care of the my retirement plan, when time comes.
the below is a reply to the above
Thanks for the answer. That's a wonderful perspective. I guess your anxiety lessens once you realize how capable you are of adapting to different situations, which I'm sure you must have had to do a bunch of times since you started. You are amazing, thanks for the inspiration :) It's incredible how inclined we are to adapt, If we simply...TRY ! I never thought I would be able to do a lot of things I am doing today. I just gave it a try...failed...and tried again. I did learn, by simply trying. And I'm clearly not the sharpest tool in the shed.

I feel like you cloud start vlogging your journeys, and form a Patreon to fund it. You've seen lots of fun things, and will see more. Yes. At the beginnings I started blogging but then I realized that it would have turned my trip into a job again...so i left the monetization of my journey aside. I just quit my job to travel and enjoy my life. Didn't want to think about money again! Patreon seem good but I haven't really found the guts to ask money to people...yet. When I ll be in need maybe i will!

In no way am I trying to attack you or diminish your extraordinary feat; just the fact that you had the courage to take the first step gives me crazy respect for you. BUT. There is so much privilege needed to get to where you have gotten. Not financial privilege mind you, you've worked your arse off to get here. But the fact that you could somehow travel to and stay in the US (for 3 years!) and then Australia without really thinking twice tells me your white skin and European passport has played a huge role in your mental safety net. As a coloured man with a shitty passport, just getting a visa to fly somewhere would be a huge fucking deal. Add to that the racism I'd face in plenty of places around the world, yeah not happening haha. You are absolutely right, my friend. I do understand that the fact that I am white and that I have an EU passport helped me A LOT. I am absolutely aware of this and I am not so naive to think that most of the times I got away with many things because of this. Coming from other countries or being a different colour could unfortunately still play a role, these days, when moving from country to country. Said this, I got denied my entrance to USA few times anyway. They are quite strict in that sense. But it always depends on the customs officer you find at the time of entry. Anyway. I get your point. Although, it's not a definite factor for your will to travel. You can still do it.
the below is another reply to the original answer
I love everything you're doing and have spent the last hour just reading your answers. I don't think you're answering anymore but... Do you have any plans of coming to India? I hope I get to meet you if you do come. Hey! Of course i have plans for India! Hopefully the covid will end soon! It all depends on that now

You can write blogs, and make YouTube videos to sustain your adventures! I am sure many of us would like to see your journey. I got few videos on youtube but i never really invested too much time (clearly) in that. Maybe I should
I always hear about people "giving up everything" and traveling the world. However, most people have worries about their economic status. Can you speak to yours at the point when you embarked? How much money had you saved, did you have any debt, what did you do with your belongings (Were there things you stored somewhere because you did want to sell or get rid of them? Did you pay for storage?), did you create a plan to generate additional income (e.g., plans for side jobs while traveling), and have you thought how to re-integrate into the "working world" when your traveling concludes (or are you hoping YouTube, etc. supports you)? Thanks! So, I started saving money when I moved to Australia. In 5 years I rounded up $40k more or less. I had no debts and, regardless the bank offering me "super interesting" offers about Credit Cards or Mortgages to buy properties, I didn't end up getting in debts with any banks. I also avoided kids and wives. I was renting an apartment and sharing it with a friend. When I decided to leave I sold all my furnitures on Gumtree (local Craigslist) and donated all my clothes to Salvation Army (Goodwill). I had no belongings left except what I piled on the bike when I left. And few months in I also realized that I didn't even need some stuff that I brought along. I did quit my job with no plans to work while travelling. I wanted, for the first time in my life, have a moment to simply ENJOY THE MOMENT without thinking about work and life as I knew it. I wanted to experience freedom, without the burden of thinking about my future constantly and what's going to happen next. I was raised with this mental construct too, so to break free from that was indeed liberating. I do not know how is going to be when this part of my life ends. If I have to go back to work, I will. But with a different heart and mind.
How did you manage it, physically? I find that my legs, back, bottom and body ache after just a few hours of riding (3+ hours), and this gets worse and worse over time (6+ hours, etc). Even on a comfortable touring motorcycle, I can’t imagine riding continuously for weeks or months at a time. Yes. Physically was challenging indeed. I had to replace my seat because the was no more foam inside. It was like sitting on a stool. Back and arse are the worst affected areas. I rode with a bit of a windscreen, so that helped to ease some of the neck pain. Luckily I had some physical conditioning to start with, but eventually I got out of shape. But, like everything in life, we eventually get used to it.
the below is a reply to the above
How many hours do you ride a day? It really depends. When I do ride, let's say that is a minimum of 1 and a half to 13 hours.
Could you maybe do a "what's in my bag"-post, show us the gear, tools and clothing you use and talk a bit about why you chose what? Ok.
Pannier 1 Camping Gear: - Sleeping bag - Air mattress - 3 people tent (I'm a tall guy) - $20 cooking pot set - propane gas tank - pocket knife - foldable chair - water bladder
Pannier 2 Electronics and knick knacks: - 11" laptop - 2 hard drives (backup!!!) - Chargers - portable tyre compressor - spare oil filter - spare front tube - cable ties - duct tape - bungee cords - first aid kit - spare bolts and screws
Tool bag - various moto tools
Duffle bag: - Clothes (various)
Tank Bag: - Drone - Toothbrush - Notepad - Small Lock - Pen
the below is a reply to the above
Did you have any problems with the drone? I remember you told me once on instagram that you planned on visiting Azerbaijan but couldn’t because Azerbaijan closed all the borders. Let me warn you that if you decide to come when borders reopen, know that drones are illegal here. Retarded law I know but you really cannot do anything about it because it is highly enforced. Probably you can give it up in customs and pick it up when you leave Nicaragua is the same. They don't allow drones in their country. I had to send it to costa rica via mail.
the below is another reply to the original answer
Traveling without a Leatherman. I can't believe it. It s listed. "Pocked knife" ;) You are right...i should have said Leatherman
the below is another reply to the original answer
What drone do you have? DJI mavic Air.
the below is another reply to the original answer
I have a CB600F I've fitted panniers to and can't fathom how you got all that camping stuff into one pannier, your packing skills must be sick I got some pretty roomy panniers too. Giant Loop is actually a company from Oregon, USA that makes these spectacular bags. Www.giantloopmoto.com I ve been riding with their products for years now.
Well nobody has asked it yet.. How did you self sustain yourself for so long? I understand everything is cheaper in South America but you also went through North America. In north America, specifically in USA, I had some friends that helped me finding accommodation along the way. I also wild camped a lot. Froze my arse up couple of nights too... But It's doable in Canada and USA since the land is so vast and you can always find a place to pitch your tent in safety.
the below is a reply to the above
See my trouble always begins when I pitch a tent I used to be the same, mate!
the below is another reply to the original answer
Maybe I'm just jaded but I don't know of anywhere you can just pitch a tent and sleep in the woods. Everywhere I've ever been camping there's an 80 dollar fee and you get a designated campground. Download iOverlander.
Hi, sorry if this is a personal question, but how often did you get laid? Do cultural differences play a role? Personal question, but interesting nonetheless. Thanks for asking "sensibly".
When travelling from town to town it's easy to meet people. The common Idea is that travellers get laid a lot. Unfortunately, in my case, I do not go out much when I travel, so my social encounters are limited to the location where I end up spending the night. I also typically stay not longer than a day or two, which is also usually not enough to create a connection with a potential partner (in my case). A lot of women are indeed attracted by the "solitary wolf" riding a motorcycle around the world, but they are not generally inclined to have a one night experience. Hence, the answer to your question, is that I rarely get laid. Cultural differences are what make mating interesting though. One trait that is standard for your part of the world, could be extremely exotic in another. Sometimes even the accent in which you speak a foreign language, could be a favourable factor.
But at the end, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.
the below is a reply to the above
Dai ammettilo che l'accento italiano aiuta. Storia interessante la tua. Ti auguro il meglio! Sorry guys.. Italian things going on here ( shakes hands in the air ) Un pochino aiuta! ;) cheers!
How did you deal with language barriers? In all latin america the most spoken language is Spanish. I struggled at the beginning but after the first month, I had a decent basic level that allowed me to communicate quite easily with the locals. In Brazil was hard again, since portuguese was completely new for me. But again, after 1 month I got used to it and I was able to have basic conversations. If you give yourself enough time, you'll pick up any language.
In other situations I used my english or sometimes, like recently in Greece, Google Translate. Works beautifully!
Is it true that Italian and Spanish go hand in hand? I had some friends from Mexico who were confident that they could pick up Italian if they lived in Italy and were forced to use it every day for a month or 2. There are different and discordant opinions about this. I personally believe that Italian and Spanish are VEEEEERY similar. I think that any spanish speaker could easily pick on italian if spending some time in the country. And viceversa. But I also met people that thought otherwise. Not sure why. It wasn't too complex for me to pick up spanish. Definitely not perfect, but way better than a native english speaker.
What was the coolest thing you saw? Hard to pinpoint one single thing. Saw so many incredible things in 5 years! Nature always strucks me the most. Some places leave you speechless. Some encounters too. But the coolest experience for me was to swim with marine wildlife in Australia and Ecuador.
the below is a reply to the above
Hey I from Ecuador! Glad you enjoyed the wildlife. Can you elaborate on your experience there? Did you visit the Galapagos islands? Ecuador is hands down my favorite country...for its people, for nature, for food, roads...i mean, i had a fantastic time there. I also visited Galapagos and It was one of the highlights...of my life!! I mean...wow. simply incredible. If there was ever a place on earth close to Jurassic Park...
How does your license work? I mean if you have a drivers license in one country and you drive through multiple countries. What happens if you get pulled over? Having European or Australian driver license is sufficient to drive in most foreign countries. I do have an International Driver License, which is simply a piece of paper you can request from your local Automobile Club, that translates your license in many languages and which is helpful when finding an "scrutinous" policeman. At the borders they never check your driving license.
the below is a reply to the above
What about the motorbike's papers? Did you need a carnet de passage ? And could you tell us about the shipping of the bike, plane or boat, expense, level of organisation needed? For the americas, you don't need CdP. The shipping of bike could be done by cargo ship or plane. Both are not cheap but quite feasible. There are agencies that usually take care of the paperwork for you. A simple google search could help you pinpoint some good info. Unfortunately because rules and prices change from country to country, prices have to be requested to the company you choose. It is usually around $1500 + to ship a motorcycle indicatively...for both sea or air freight.
Can you speak on your base knowledge of bikes at the start of your travels? I'm interested in purchasing a bike to cruise around America in once (if) this pandemic blows over. Did you ever have to do any emergency DIY work when you couldnt make it to a garage for professuonal repairs? First of all: DO IT!! it's an amazing experience. I had basic/zero motorcycle mechanical skills when I started. I often used youtube as a source of "inspiration". Now I rather do the job myself than taking my bike into a shop. If you are going to cruise around the US, you wont need to carry much spares, since you can buy and have most parts shipped wherever you are. Somehow even breaking down, if happens, is a great part of the overall adventure.
[deleted] I am not sure. Yet. Definitely the more I go on with this adventure (and life) the more I become aware of myself and my surroundings. I am looking forward to have somehow a peaceful life in harmony with my surroundings. Stress has been out of my life for a while now and I want to keep it this way. Don't have a family. Never had kids or wives. I think it's going to stay this way...but you never know.
the below is a reply to the above
You've been doing this 5 years now. Do you feel the need to keep moving after you've been somewhere for a few days? How long is the longest you've been stationary since staring and did you ever feel like you wanted to get off the road for a longer time. Well...yes I always feel the need to see something more and explore. I get bored easily. But I have to say that during my Lockdown in Greece I was absolutely at peace. I really enjoyed my down time and i took advantage of it by taking care of many little things i left behind.
Did you tend to keep to yourself most of the time, or would you go out to meet people and socialize with the locals in the area? I am not really a "social beast" anymore. I socialize in hostels and when I look for food mostly...but I don't go out at night. That is quite personal, but I prefer a quiet night than pubs. This allowed me somehow to save a lot of money in the long run. I may have missed out in "social opportunities", but I prefer this way.
the below is a reply to the above
But you did meet a lot of people right? Im not social at all and it keeps me from traveling, im afraid that it would ruin the experience if I dont click with anyone haha. You gave me some confidence this will be a smaller problem than I think it is. I am an introvert and generally speaking, kind of a geek. So yeah...not really the outgoing kind of guy...but, when travelling alone, you don't have that social pressure anymore. You are by yourself and there's nothing to tell you what you have or not have to do. you are free. And yes...you will meet tons of people!!
Where do you stay at (camping, airbnb, rental, etc) ? Where you get money from? What do you usually carry with you? What is you most essential item? Have you made many friends? I mostly stay in Hostels (when is cheap enough). In latin America, you can pay from $5-$10 for a night in a shared dorm. When in remote areas, I camp. Best thing ever. Otherwise I use Couchsurfing. Occasionally I stay with friends and/or other bikers that got to know my story and want to help out. I live off my own savings. Most essential Item is "Common sense". AKA try not to do extremely stupid things. :)
the below is a reply to the above
How far do you usually have to plan ahead to find couchsurfing accommodations? The one thing that has deterred me from trying it out is that my motorcycle trips almost never stick to the schedule I have planned. Either due to unforeseen circumstances or maybe just deciding to ride around an area longer. Have you given people on CS a range of dates/times that you would arrive, or do you have to have your arrivals planned thoroughly? Yes, you usually have to investigate one or two weeks ahead to find accommodation with couchsurfing. Especially because I am a single guy. If i was a girl, i could find somewhere to sleep in few hours. Ahah. Oh well, women are less threatening i guess! ;) But yeah. You do need to check first and give a rough estimate of days of your permanence. Typically 2-3 days is the max. Then if both parties are ok, you can extend.
Have you ever done any housesitting for accommodation? I've done smaller trips like this, staying in hostels and campsites. I've heard of housesitting more recently and once I go again I'm thinking of trying it out. When looking at listings though it almost seems to good to be true. I just wonder if there is a catch to it I ve never done housesitting specifically. But I ve used HelpX, Workaway, woofing, etc to find occasional gigs that allowed me to get accommodation in return of small jobs. In Greece i stayed in a 9 apts complex on the beach by myself, in exchange of cleaning and painting! Great deal indeed
the below is another reply to the second answer
If you were a woman, there would also be far more risks to couch surfing alone. I'd definitely prefer planning over higher risk of sexual assault. Women have more chances of getting hosted because there are a lot of women hosts too. Or couples. They are definitely more willing to host a woman. But i get your point
the below is another reply to the original answer
Thanks, got another question. What is enough savings for a year in Latin America? well, it really depends of what kind of lifestyle you want. If you are ok sleeping in hostels every night and eating cheap market food...doesn't really take much! depending on which countries you want to visit too and how you want to move around! you can do it hitchhiking too if you want! and that won't cost you a thing! Just time!
How did you manage to not have your motorcycle stolen? Common sense. Mostly parked inside or in "safe areas" when possible. You can never be 100% sure but I never had issues of sort in my 5 years of travelling. Actually somebody stole my tool bag in Vancouver, Canada.
the below is a reply to the above
As a Canadian id like to say “sorry”. apologies accepted! ;)
the below is another reply to the original answer
As a Vancouverite, I'm not surprised. We have a large homeless population and they target anything they can find to steal and sell. It wasn't a homeless guy per se...was definitely a junkie. I went to Hastings street 3 days in a row to see if i could find my stuff...but it was gone. Bummer.
how were the first few months without the things that you were used to having? (sorry for the bad english, it isn't my main language) Your english is fine, mate! First month was HARD! 😅 I had never camped in my life and the longest moto trip I took by that time was only 350km. So yeah, in the beginnings the learning curve was steep! Basic things like "where to sleep at night every night" or "how to store food" were kind of abstract concepts for me. My first night camping was also my first night on the road. It was horrible. I paid so much money to camp in a so so campground, with noisy and drunk neighbors. It also rained at night. Haha An absolute fail! It got better and better with time. Also looking for food, packing and taking care of the bike. It was a full immersion in a brand new lifestyle for me. A great experience indeed
the below is a reply to the above
Paolo, your first night camping sounds ... well, it sounds really terrible! I'm curious how you would compare that first inexperienced night with say... an average night camping somewhere, anywhere, I don't know... say 2-4 years later after having done it for a while. In which ways did that first inexperienced night of camping come to differ from your more seasoned camping night to night later on? What kinds of routines did you end up falling into on those nights that you picked up from years of experience having done it? Well...let's just say that my love for camping escalated quickly as well. I started camping in the wild...not in confined facilities, and I simply loved it. Sitting quietly in front of the fire at night, after a long day riding, watching the stars appear slowly in the sky... The silence. I learned that camping in a busy campsite, with kids screaming and music playing is not the kind of camping I was looking for. Surely is great for families, because usually it is a safe environment for kids to play in, but for solo travellers looking for some quiet downtime...it is not. Better to hide somewhere behind a tree or some bushes and have a quiet night with some privacy. Free of charge.
How badly do you stink? Joking of course, good luck with your adventures. If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound? ;)
Not to be nosey but what would qualify as enough money to "sustain yourself for a while"? And how long do you consider that "a while" to be? I had no Idea how much It would cost me to live, travel and not work, since I had never done it before. But I knew how much It costed me to live in Sydney for a year, without any extras (just food, accommodation, rent and bills). I assumed initially that my trip around the world would have lasted a maximum of 1 year and a half. Was I wrong! I pretty much had saved $40k in 5 years of work.
Thanks for doing this! How much do you talk to strangers? I can imagine either being very sociable, or taking the opportunity to be more solitary. Also, when you were traveling the world, how specifically did you keep in contact with friends and family back home? Was one service/approach more effective than another? I love to talk with Locals!! It's the best thing! I love to talk with older people especially. They can really give you a better perspective about the place and overall more interesting stories about their lives. Sometimes there's a language barrier but I try regardless. Hostels are also a great place to meet friends and people from all over the world. Aside from this, travelling solo on a motorcycle or bicycle naturally attracts curiosity, so I also met some good friends of mine at gas stations or random rest areas in the middle of nowhere.
To keep in touch with family and friends nowadays is quite easy. Mobile data networks are excellent worldwide and you can buy local sim cards to use local carriers data traffic. I use whatsapp and fb messenger the most.
What kind of income are you receiving to sustain this lifestyle long-term? Living off my life savings. I am self supported. Just worked for few years, saving as much as I could and then took off.
the below is a reply to the above
That sounds epic... Met a few guys like that, but never had the balls to do so myself. If you read this: how much of a mechanic are you? Do you do stuff yourself of do you bring your bike to the shop for maintenance/tires? At the beginning I wasn't really able to do much on my bike, except changing brake pads maybe. Then I tried and read forums online about troubleshooting...and of course youtube mate!! I tend to have a mechanic change my tyres, since it's a hell of a job and takes 4 minutes with proper machines. you can find tyre mechanics literally EVERYWHERE.
the below is another reply to the original answer
But, with the estimate you gave it would cost like 9k usd per year to maintain that lifestyle. You’ve been doing it for 5 years. I guess it’s hard for a lot of Americans to imagine saving up 45k+ in the few years that you worked. trust me, It's even harder for an italian to conceive to save up 40k in 5 years of work. Most italians will be able to save that amount maybe in 10-15 years. That's why I quit my job in italy and moved to Australia, where salaries are way higher. It's just sad that I had to leave my family, friends and country to be able to have a better life.
the below is another reply to the original answer
Why dont you try to register for welfare in Australia, and get the welfare cheques deposited into your account? I thought about it while riding around Australia. But I didn't find it fair. I mean, I wasn't in need of cash to sustain my living and there were probably people who seriously did. Plus I think you have to show up for interviews and stuff...so I preferred to let go.
OP, you're doing what I've dreamed of doing since I was about 21... I'm 32 now. I've saved a bit of money, and have no debt, and am still considering it... but feel as though it would be irresponsible at this point? shrugs I have a few questions, Ever considered staying at a spot for a few weeks and doing some manual labor for extra scratch to help you along in your travels? Ever had any problem with weird parasites in some of your rougher spots (scabies, bedbugs, intestinal issues) such as cheap hostels and whatnot? Since you don't go to bars or anything like that, what's the easiest way for you to meet new people? Ever felt any "I'm about to get robbed" vibes while on the road? Did you make rules like not traveling too late, etc.. I'm considering doing this very thing, since I make a good living but am already a minimalist and don't really need anything... I don't care about owning a house, or having nice clothes or any of that nonsense. I suppose it'd just be a drag to hit a dead end, have to return to the workforce after a few years of traveling and finding myself unable to secure a decent gig again. Anyways, if you've read this, thanks for your time and thanks for doing this AMA! Good luck man, and stay safe. Mate, when I left for my first trip around Australia, I was 34yo...so I completely understand where you are coming from. It take a bit of time to prepare and commit to this. I highly recommend it though. I stopped occasionally and did some jobs, yes, but were more like small temporary gigs...that paid maybe for a new set of tyres than anything. Still! Once I pressured washed mine trucks for a week in South Australia. Haha i was covered in mudd but I was happy. I also cleaned few apartments in greece in exchange of accommodation....things like that. Things will come your way if you look hard enough.
Didn't have any problems with bugs or parasites no. Got lucky on this one i guess. But i do believe I built my immune system pretty well.
The easiest way to meet people is in hostels. Being in your 30s you are already on the "old side" for a hostel, but you are still ok. ;) haha
Sometimes yes i felt i was going to get robbed or mugged...but never happened. I never travel with cameras and other expensive items with me. When i am on the bike, there s always the "surprise effect", meaning that people are more shocked to see somebody travelling solo than tempted to rob him right away.
How has the pandemic altered any future travel plans? The pandemic changed things quite drastically. A lot of other travellers I know got stuck somewhere or had to cancel their plans until further notice. Still not sure what to do in the long terms. Covid definitely made everything more unpredictable.
What are the cheapest and best places you would suggest a young person go visit? Also, just out of curiosity, when do you think you’ll stop? Well, there are plenty of great places to go explore on a tight budget. Latin America and South East Asia are generally speaking quite cheap. I would recommend Bolivia or Peru, in SA...and Cambodia in SEA. As a start...
I Hope I will be able to go on for few more years...but so far I am pretty content with what I've done already.
How do you overcomevia issues? I believe you referred to "Visa issues"?!
Well, having an Italian passport is quite handy since you get visa on arrival (valid for 1-3 months) as a tourist in most of the countries in the world. I had to request and pay for my Russian and Mongolian visa though. You can request that 1-2 weeks before entry in any available Embassy.

And what about other practical stuff like insurance for the motorcycle(is it allowed to be abroad for such a long time ?) ? Maybe obligatory x-yearly technical vehicle inspections (so far not needed in a lot of european countries but about to change so you were lucky I guess) ? Official site of residence (or what is it called, it is really hard to be 'homeless' in some countries, probably depends on what your current 'home country' is ) ? Ok so, insurance for motorcycle is something you need to get every time you enter a new country. Some insurance companies will insure foreign vehicles, but it isn't always the case. My bike is australian so after a certain point you need to inspect the vehicle to renew the registration. There is a process through which you can go to an associated mechanic in the country where you are and have the vehicle inspected and the results sent to the Australian motorvehicle authority. Then you can renew your papers online and have the new registration sent to you overseas. My official country of residence is still Australia, because it is where I want to go back to.
the below is a reply to the above
Thanks for the response. I can imagine it is not the most interesting thing to talk about but I am planning on doing something similar with a van + motorcycle (that fits in the van) combo so I am super interested in hearing about the (boring) administrative side of someone who is actually doing it :D. I had no idea something was possible like the remote inspection, I hope something similar exists in my country too. So far I only read you have to go to inspection asap when returning to your country if you were abroad. But I can imagine that is not going to fly if you plan on being away for a very long time though :P. Also: did you happen to keep a list of insurance companies that were willing to do it ? In that sense things change rapidly and new and better companies may arise. Better check with locals or use iOverlander app to find these kind of info.

2020.09.03 21:42 China_Hawk COVID-19 Community Update

September 3, 2020
Good afternoon,
With the Labor Day holiday weekend upon us, many are planning to celebrate at home or be on the move. Wherever you’re planning to enjoy the long weekend, please do so responsibly. Avoid groups and gatherings, stay home as much as possible and follow face covering guidance if outside the home.
Our cases in Eugene and Lane County continue to rise. We know that past holiday weekends have led to outbreaks in Oregon, in part because of the risky ways people celebrate. Please help protect your family, friends and neighbors by celebrating safely and remind those in your bubble to do the same.
If you’ll be spending time in close contact with people from outside of your household, Lane County Public Health recommends a self-quarantine for 14 days upon your return home to reduce the likelihood of spreading of COVID-19 throughout our community. Questions about COVID-19 can be directed to the Non-Emergency COVID-19 Call Center. The call center is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 541-682-1380.

Within these focal areas the City is looking to establish efforts, create partnerships and move the needle towards community wellbeing.

Library Expands Services

On August 24, Eugene Public Library opened its doors to begin providing indoor services designed to meet the needs of community members who don't have easy online access. All locations now offer computers, internet access, and printing. At the Downtown Library, people can also borrow print books, DVDs, and CDs with same day, staff-assisted counter service. Library staff report these services have been greatly appreciated. Meantime, cardholders with online access continue to enjoy eBooks, online audiobooks and streaming movies, as well as borrowing physical items by placing requests for later pick up. Learn more about current library services.

Return your books, please

Eugene Public Library is asking for a favor. An unusually large number of loaned items share the same due date: September 14. If possible, please return them sooner.
Library Director Will O’Hearn explains, "When we had to close the buildings and book returns, we didn’t know just when we'd be able to reopen them. We extended all due dates to September 14 to make sure everyone would have plenty of time to return items without stress. But now that date is coming up! And if everything comes back on the same day, it'll cause a different kind of stress. So our thanks go out in advance to everyone who can drop by and return items earlier."
Outside book returns are open at all Eugene Public Library locations:
